Are these the same "ultra rare" wheels you guys were trying to sell for like $3k?

Kirk@works

No, these are similar but the originals included the limited edition Mitsubishi center caps made by Owens Development UK and were forged.

We did sell several sets of the originals for $2400.00

What differentiates these wheels from just about all other aftermarket wheels is that they use factory Mitsubishi lug nuts like the OEM Enkei's on Evo VII thru IX.

Hope this answers your concerns, have a great holiday and give us a call if you want a set.

Not trying to start anything by this but I have never heard of the FQ400 wheels being forged. Do you have tech for this? I'm just curious.

The jump from the 260bhp of the standard Evo VIII to the 340bhp of the hottest version currently on sale is a relatively simple one. But the move up to 400bhp requires a much more substantial overhaul, done with the, collaboration of specialist companies.
Ralliart’s partners in the project include Motec, provider of the secondary ECU, which gives more precise control of the fuelling. It also allows the owner to specify anti-lag (which closes the turbo wastegate and makes the Evo sound like a Gatling gun) and launch control. It also provides datalogging to be accessed by technicians come service time. HKS supplies the bulk of the new engine componentry. Owen Developments oversees the complicated mapping of the engine and work on the Garrett turbo. Finally, Flow Race Engines in Warwick brings it all together and builds the engines. A complicated parentage, but then this is a very special progeny.

Don't you think if Owens made the wheels too they would talk about it?

Not only do they oversee the complicated mapping of the engine and work on the Garrett turbo, they provide centercaps too.

Ok, so I finally got to the bottom of this. I just called Owen Development in Oxford, England at (+44) 01865 821062, they are 8hrs ahead of us so its 8:47AM there.

A nice fellow with a heavy british accent answered and I asked him about the FQ400 and what they had to do with it.

Owen: "we did the mapping and the turbocharger"

Me: "Oh ok, that was your involvement?"

Owen: "correct"

Me: "Did you have anything to do with the wheels on it?"

Owen: "No, that was Team Dynamics for Mitsubishi"

Me: "Any idea if they are forged or not?"

Owen: "No they are not, I don't believe so"

Me: "Ok, thank you for your time!"

Owen: "Cheers.."

I'll call Team Dynamics in the morning to see what they have to say.

I realized Team Dynamics is actually from the UK so I called the UK office at +44 (0) 121 525 2525

After going through about 4 different people I finally got some information.

The wheels are special cast heat-treated wheels.

I'm glad I finally found out from the source because I actually always wanted to know for sure anyway. :)

btw, this is not totally aimed at WORKS, alot of vendors where saying they where forged so I really wanted to find out for sure.

Nothing like info straight from the horse's mouth. Excellent fact finding mission Mr. Apex.

I wonder where WORKS got their information?

WORKS: Can you tell us if these $269 wheels are the same as your $600 wheels minus the centercap?

I think these wheels would look sick on my car, but not so sure about $269/wheel thats stock sized and I dunno if its any lighter than the stock Enkeis (My guess is no). So basically what you end up with, is paying for a wheel that looks different and doesn't offer any other advantages. Am I wrong in assuming this? Please correct me if I am...

If you like the wheels buy them because they are the same as the FQ400, use stock lugs and are a special wheel that is quite rare. As for the info, I received this from the UK description on the FQ-400. I apologize if these are not forged.

Like all products, price is based on cost and availability. The original set was extremely rare to acquire and cost more than these current sets.

They weigh similar to stock- (maybe a couple lbs. less than stock) and are 17" x 8", I have them on my WORKS TR340 and I love them on the street. On the track, I use my 5-Zigens at 17x9.

BTW,

Like anything if you want it buy it, if not don't.

K, glad it's cleared up that these are not forged. Don't want to mislead anyone or anything.

Hey,
Since you guys are so thorough can you get me some info on a set of Enkei WRC tarmac wheels for the TME Evo VI. I'm looking for either 17's or 18's in White.

Between the nightclub and WORKS I don't have the time to spend on the boards.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks, Kirk
