View Full Version : Is it the tuner or the tools?

ECUflash and other open tuning tools may have democratized tuning but not due care.

I wonder how this happens. Even the low-rent tuning tools would surely show that errant cell in a different color. More sophisticated tools would show it as an obvious spike in the 3-D rpm X load X timing space. I'd expect even more sophisticated tools to basically say, "WTF are you doing in that cell???"

Smells like steak knife surgery

That could be what happens when your tuning style involves typing 8 everywhere -- you're sure to make a mistake and type an extra in a cell here and there...

thought this part was funny:

"However - FYI

I have checked trhe original ROM

The map provided to the customer DID NOT have a 88 in it - the customer must have added the 8 by accident in his experimentation

Customer is advised to communicate through email"

LOL, jumped on that one quickly...

Yeah, because the first thing the customer would probably do is open up the jacked "crazy eights" tune and jack it up even more.

Notice also the thread was quickly closed after Al got in his last word.

Al jokes aside - truth be told, Al's defense is not that implausible and there's probably no way to know what really happened. Yet another flaw with these tools in the hands of novices or hamfists - no audit trail/revision control.

There was another thread in Ecuflash where user had his car running 12.8-13.2 AFRs at WOT and he started the thread wondering why the car was getting misfires.
