Check with vtluu - he's the autocrosser with the solo2 scene.

chrisw and I run at the local SCCA Solo2 events. I know Joe Harrison (http://www.joe250.com/) (red E Street Prepared class Evo with the bad-ass "VIII" graphics and 285 tires) lurks here as well... maybe one day we can convince him to come out of hiding. ;)

I'm interested in going to the next auto-x. Do we need to be SCCA members in order to run?

So can I sign up to be a member on the spot or do I need to sign up ahead of time? I want to hit up the July 11th auto-x in oakland.

They actually have a deal now where SCCA members are allowed to invite guests; I'm sure I and/or chrisw would be happy to sign you on as a guest, so you don't have to be a member.

Cool! You guys gonna be at the next auto-x?? I don't usually auto-x much, so being a guest would probably suit me better. I just want to get a feel for the EVO at the limits.

Yeah, next SFR-SCCA auto-x (Fresno and Sac chapters notwithstanding) will be at Oakland (Network Associates) Coliseum on July 11. All the dirt at: http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/

I may or may not be running in Atwater at the next American Auto-x Series (AAS) events on July 3-4; I may be on call for work that weekend. AAS is nice because you don't need membership, only need to get your car tech'ed once per year, and you get 5 runs (rather than SCCA's usual 3) on some really long, fast and wide-open courses. More info at: http://www.americanauto-x.com/

I did my first Auto X this last weekend in marina, it's quite a rush of adrenaline.

Merced is a little far for the American auto-x series. I like keeping auto-x to a half-day affair. It’s been 4+ years since I last auto-x’d. Having a big turbo’d DSM really sucks for flying around tight corners, so I stopped. I’ve been itching to bring my EVO out to an auto-x. I can’t wait til 7/11!

NO, don't use the word Auto-X or racing or butt munching in any forum, 'cause Mitsu will hunt you down and void your warranty.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, go to EvolutionM.net and look at the first stickied topic in the Evo General Forum. We'll have to come up with code words for auto-x just like I have a code word for Mitsu Execs....AssHats.

Supposedly being the key word. I wouldn't say that Mitsubishi is the most forthcoming or honest company in the world. But, you obviously know that, hence yer winky!

It's probably too late for me anyway... the dozens of autocross videos and photos I have posted here might have something to do with that. ;)

(On a somewhat-related note, I got my recall notice yesterday. D'ya think they'll say they won't fix the weight label because I autocross?)

Screw mitsu. I think my car will be out of warranty by the time any problems arise anyway. I don’t have any clutch, tranny or engine issues to date (5k miles).

They can't deny any emission/safety recall unless you have removed/replaced the part in question. Emission/Safety recalls usually originate from the DOT/NHSTA, so the manufacturer has no recourse. Unfortunately, parts like clutches don't fall under the same rules so DOT doesn't have to same "muscle" to force those kind of recalls.

Here's a couple of websites that be informative:

The first needs no introduction, it's title says it all:
http://www.mitsubishisucks.com/

This the federal website that lists recalls and consumer complaints about vehiciles/manufacturers:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/home.cfm

In the manual, it states the clutch is under warranty for the first 12,000 miles, of course that is up to the dealer to say "if you abused it or what not" but i mean, any clutch under "normal" circumstances should not give out under 12,000 miles.
