Brwnrice, I was going to send this as a PM but figured I might as well share my experience regarding roof racks. I noticed in your sig you want a Yakima roof rack. After spending many hours at rack dealers and on the phone w/ Mistsu technical, there is no roof mounting location on Evo's like the Lancer. There is also no generic mounting system that will work from Thule or Yakima. The only option available is to permanently install mounts unto the roof. That means drilling holes into the roof. This was something I wasn't willing to commit too but, fortunatley, I found a Yakima trunk mounted bike rack that fits under the rear wing. I guess the big high wing has it's good points after all.

I think I found the solution I am going to implement.

Make sure you leave enough of a gap so you can open your trunk!

i pm'ed a couple of guys on evom about the roof racks and they have told me that the racks for the regular lancers will fit the evo. i'm just basing my decision on their experience and so far i'm undecided since you told me that the racks will not mount properly. i dont think that yakima trunk mount will securely hold my 10' surfboard.

That was my first car when I turned 16. It took me a long time to save the $160.00 that the owner was asking for....I never knew it would be on a website; I am so proud!

Nah, actually my first car was a '65 Mustang...

your bicycle will fit in the trunk, just take off both wheels. i take my track bike to the velodrome in san jose almost every week in the summer to race. i suggest wrapping the bike up in something first mainly to keep chain oil from making a mess. if your a mt. biker then you have the added bonus of dirt and mud to watch out for.

I've had the Yakima Roof rack since my evo way three days old (shes now 4 months old). Here are the parts I've got...

QTowers $129
Q102 Clips for the front $25
Q83 Clips for the rear $25
48" Crossbars $50 total (they come in pairs)
38" Fairing (Helps with wind noise SO MUCH, literally incredible the Difference it made, AND you can decorate it with ALL KINDS of sticker (for speed).) $50
CopperHead Fork mount $80
Had the Wheel Fork ($30) but it just rotated back on the bar and the wheel rested on the roof. Didn't like that too much.
SKS Lock Cores-6 Pack $54 like wheel locks, that way no one can steal the rack or the bike Bike locked to rack, rack locked to car....
Total of $413

The following is NOT BRAGGING, just goes to show how much I trust the roof rack...

I've got a $4500 Road Bike and a $1500 Mountain Bike and I've had each on seperately (buying another CopperHead Fork Mount soon) and driven five continuous hours with them on doing at least 85mph (sometimes a lot more) and they've never budged. Probably attached a bike to the top 20 or 30 times. I've never ever even had a second thought about them, except when I almost drove through a Drive-thru which would have ripped the bike off. Make sure you lock them on tight so that when you rock the bike back and forth, the fork doen't move AT ALL in the mount.

This setup is the exact setup used for a regular lancer when you go to order one. It works perfectly fine. I'll post some pics of it if you guys want. And gimme some examples of detailed pics you'd like. Like where the Qclips mount in the door frame, that kinda thing. Installation takes about 20 minutes if you've got an extra set of hands. Usually the place you buy the rack from will help you out.

As for the mpg, On my five hour road trip, WITH BIKE on top, I averaged 19-22 mpg (I think, I'm making the trip again in two weeks and will let you know a definite mpg figure). I do notice a difference in mpg with the rack on, but it only really matters if you're making a LONG trip with a bike (or whatever) on top.

The rack is also INCREDIBLY easy to remove from your car and is a one man job, three minutes tops. So if you wanted, you could only have it on when you need it. I think it makes the car look SO MUCH meaner, so I leave it on all the time.

I would love to see some pics of where the Qclips mount. I want a rack for snowboarding that I can take on and off easily.

Thanks for sharing.

sam, i suspect the fairing is giving way to much down force thus creating the bad gas mileage.

DEFINATELY the right foot, cause I've got the fairing... Pics should be up tomorrow. anything besides pics of the clip mounting point? I'll throw some pics of the entire car up, so you get the overall picture of how sick the car looks with the rack.
