ok i just got my ass handed to me by my friend in a hatchback with a civic type r motor.. we went from a slow roll and punched it at about 10 mph. how can i get it to pick up boost faster? i have heartd of brake boosting..how is that accomplished?

brake boosting:

step on the brake with ur left foot, gas with ur right foot, at the same time, this way u're not accelerating while building boost. when time to go let go of the brake. at 10mph though i think this would be hard to accomplish.

with the s2000 or any torqueless 2wd i do rolling clutch dumps if i want to pick up quickly (say i'm at 3000rpm, engage clutch and rev it to 6000mph then disengage clutch the car will semi-launch from a roll). i heard this is bad for the Evo's transfer case since it's awd though. with the s2000 the trick is to let the tires spin a bit, since otherwise the drivetrain takes the shock.

Brake boosting at such low speed is a little difficult. If you're going about 10-15mph, I would push the clutch in halfway, rev it up to about 5k and slip it out. Don't dump the clutch or else you might bog. Just slip it, and when it engages then floor it. It should be one smooth motion. Takes some practice to get it perfect though.

There is absolutley no reason whatsover you should need to brake boost on the stock or stock-hybrid turbos. Shift down a gear.

10 mph roll? 1st gear.

/sigh street racing's bad...

:( Please stay safe.

I think the civic guy might consider clutch play a little cheezy unless he's doing it too.. Â*Then it's big advantage evo.

What color is the Hatchback? Advan stickers? CTR Motors are crazy...

civic hatchbacks only weigh 2300 lbs, i think you need to lose some weight or add some whp if you want to beat this guy.

let me say first we were not street racing..we were on a buddys of mines land..he has a long road in front of his house.. so there was no traffic or other people..

the hatch is black, with no stickers.. we went from a dead stop and i killed him, its just he hits v-tec before i can reach any type of boost. but the car is crazy fast and hella powerfull...i love it. i want one.

Private property racing ftw. lol. Must be a big house or something. I saw a video a while back on an wrx trying to launch while it was already rolling and it made a loud CLUNK/POP noise... it could'nt have possible been good for the car. lol.

How big is your buddies property you guys can get up to good speeds? Who is he? Tony Montana?

why the hell are you racing from 5-10mph...if you are going that slow just man up and do a heads up race from a dig. 2-step that bitch and leave the honda in a plume of black smoke

lol looks like your buddy talked you into the worst starting scenario for the evo. At a slight roll, all you're going to do is bog. Do as UCB suggested and launch that sumbitch.

Yea, you might as well start from a dig. Try from a 20 - 25mph roll. Gives you some chance. And you can do a rolling launch. Don't dump. Might just make you bog er worse. Slip it a little and you'll feel like you're super launching!

be forewarned..slipping the stock clutch is a quick way to roast it

Amen to that, ive done it once or twice (not street racing) just playing around at a light. Whoa was I smelling that clutch afterward. LOL

Clutch dump is actually the best way to launch. Rev to 6k then dump that bitch!

Rev to 6k then dump that bitch!

Ouch! I did that once, never again. Actually, I think it was only 5K, but still, never again.

Did it go CLUNK and bog?

TogueMonster

Affirmative! I jerked forward and the engine died. Fortunately, nothing broke.

^That's because you didn't rev it to a high enough RPM. If you do it right, you should get a little bit of wheelspin (which takes some strain off the drivetrain) and take off like a rocket.

Can't be afraid to do high RPM clutch dumps if you want to get a good launch with AWD, because that's pretty much the only way. If not, big clunk and stall.

If I remember correctly, that was as high as it would go. Back then it was stock. So not a fan of teh CLUNK.Â*

use ecuflash and set the stationary rev limit to your liking

UCB

and if you are still bogging, raise the tire pressure. Wheel spin is better than bogging

That's also a good way to blow shiat up.

UCB

tell that to racers and georgesevo :P

earlyapex aka jack ass
07-24-2007, 11:11 AM
Yea it can be fast but it will blow shiat up in time, no if, and, or but about it.

Go do some 6500 clutch dumps and see for yourself. :)

Im good with 5500rpm..spins the tires plenty :P

Im not a car bowler by trade, so getting down to 1.6X and 1.7X doesnt really mean much to me ;)

I used gameshark and I get some nice 4sec 1/4 times..
