I have heard of people passing with 264's and a good tune and something like the hks 264's would be a nice all around cam for the street. The only problem would be the fact that you wouldnt make very good power with a tune designed to pass smog

I had a 264/272 setup with a 3" DP and RSR Ex Mag GTII Exhaust. Also had a 255 fuel pump, Vishnu gears and an XFlash. The dealer who took my car swapped in the OEM Cat and the car passed the sniffer. So...it can be done...but its definitely a case by case basis.

I'd say that if you're really worried about smog...264s or 269s with 0/0 on the cam gears at the time of the smog would be your best bet.

When I traded in my car.. It passed with flying colors with the GSC 264/264s. They had to pull the injectors though. A fresh evo cat will pass with anything I bet.. Just keep that cat in the closet!

c'mon man thats the wrong way to look at it. maybe he wants to keep his car long enough to smog it, or maybe he is smart and wants to make mods that are sensable and won't have to unmod later down the road.

To make it simple, anything before the cat. that is visible without C.A.R.B. e.o. # are illegal in Cali.
What can't be seen just take your chance. Of course if you go with a wild cam and the idle is "loppy", then the tech. will notice that right away.

The works 269's supposedly pass smog too, due to an unlopey idle that doesnt cause HC AND CO readings to jump everytime it lopes. Cough* im selling some for 300 otd *COUGH.

hi everyone, I just want to modify my evo and install cams that will both increase the level of performance out of the evo and be able to pass a smog check test easily without any problem. I just want to mod the car the right way without worrying about smog issue later down the road.

some says that 264/264, and 264/272 + cat, with good tune will pass the smog, what year was your evo?

Current mods are K&N typhoon air intake, hks BOV, perrin 3 inch downpipe, UR 3 inch test pipe, Greddy Titanium exhaust with silencer on the muffler. Just wodering if I add 264/264 or 264/272 cams + a very good tune, will that help me pass a smog check??? taking that I will swap my OEM cat when the smog check come???

I believe onesickLambo passed with 264's if I am not mistaken. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

My DSM passed with some (Forced Performance) FP-2 cams (HKS 272 equal, but more up top as oppossed to down low on the HKS) and a recirculated o2 mounted Ext. WG 8) . I only mention it because I've noticed that they are making cams for the Evo platform now. Ask any current/ex-DSMer and they'll agree that they're a great cam for the price $215 ea., same as for the Evo.

You can't see cams during a smog test. ;)

Only thing you need to worry about is the sniffer test. Those results get sent directly to the DMV by the test machine. The operator can't change that. Anything visual can be fixed with $$$$$ if you go to the right place. ;)
