Well I was going to clean my MAF with the CRC cleaner and one of the anchor for the bolt was loose so the nut and anchor turned together. I tried to hold it with a crescent wrench and it slipped and put a gash on the honeycomb of the sensor about an inch long. I was able to fix the honeycomb as best as I can but does anybody know here what would be the worse case scenario can happen and can I just buy the honeycomb part instead of buying a whole new MAF. Right now the car runs fine but wondering if my fuel mileage will go down due to incorrect metering.

thanks in advance.

You can't buy the honeycomb seperate. If you straightened it out as close to stock as possible you should be ok.

Thanks Bryan. That's what I thought about the honeycomb(not getting is separate) and getting it straight as possible. Looking at it straight, the honeycomb looks okay but from an angle, you can see the gash. Actually, I don't know if it was the CRC cleaner or what but my evo seems to be "peppy" right now. I hope it's not running lean. :?

On the MAF topic. Anyone know if they could make a less restricive one work? Like a Granatelli?

Sorry for the large pic.

Yup, you can run a $150 3" GM MAF. Most put it in the upper IC pipe, you would need to custom fab the pipe or buy the Dejon one. You also need the MAF Translator, which is about $200

It's not possible to calibrate it with ecuflash? So you would just need to fab a wiring harness.

You might be able to do it in ecuflash with the MAF tables but you would need to know the calibration data, etc.

They have a MAF translator specific for the evo. All ready to go, just splice and play. They might even have a harness now.

Emailed Granatelli about development and/or calibration data.

BTW: That was a sick idea, Bryan. I give full credit to you. If you run that MAF setup near the throttle body, you can run a VTA BOV. Then you can combine that with an external wastegate with open dump and K&N Typhoon intake to complete the "Fields of Raging Screaming Roaring Kittens Package."

Lol, wasn't my idea. The DSM guys been doing that for over a decade probably. The 1G DSM maf was about as restrictive as a slurpee straw.

I kept reading this post wondering if I wrote, because the SAME exact thing happened to me. Fixed the screen as best I could and seems to run fine.

There is a larger than 3" MAF for LS-1's available rom Granatelli as well. I think that it is 3.5".

This would then mean getting more 3.5" pipes right? Would be better to just move it closer to throttle body? And what would happen if it was just removed? Would we run super rich?
