Eh, i checked the links shown, and those definitley don't look good enough!! I'm kind of going through the same thing as you are, so i want to get my hands on an Apexi induction box and take its measurements n such... then build my own from aluminum sheeting from home depot.

eh, i prefer something along these lines as well, but the one we wanna make will let the stock snorkel still push cold air in, as well as possibly make a scoop inside the drivers side of the bumper to direct cold air right up to the filter...

I will try making this one... I prolly visit home depot when i get a chance and get some aluminum plate... I guess i only need a drill and something to cut a 4" cirlce hole and few bolts...

I'll give it a try...

ya i made some basic sketches of what i had expected. My goal was to start with cardboard, make a prototype, and then move to sheet metal or sheet aluminum. I'll post them in a sec...

i wanted to pull in air from the lower right part of the bumper, and also incorporate the stock snorkel. Maybe these drawings won't make sense, but i can explain them and make a better drawing either by hand or with paint if need be...

Gee thanks, Marlon.

That aluminum box looks funky. o.O

A snorkel from the bottom would be a good idea too. :) Utilize all possible airways.

ok so don't laugh, i did this in class lol

i havent decided how i will bend the metal yet, and more sides (the battery side and the headlight side) can be made to keep heat from the radiator away, but this was my first attempt about 2 months ago. spoolin and i are going to try to make something like this after we are home in norcal for the summer:

does that make sense? the part listed as (2) is the scoop to attach somewhere beneath to pull in air from the bumper. Like i said i havent even looked to see if these are viable mounting spots, but this was my BASIC idea...

cool design. :D just needs a redraw with a ruler. ;)

When i took my front bumper off there was a lil room to snake a snorkel down but not big enough for a scoop like you drew. :? I might be wrong tho. x.x

Still looks good. 8)

haha, like i said, this was in class on a desk about half the size of the actual piece of paper. It was just an idea that sparked. Agreed on the ruler bit, but i need to actually spend some time looking at the car looking for reasonable mounting spots

The sketch looks good and thats kinda my idea also but not the snorkel coz it will collect some dust...

I will post some sketch myself when i get the chance.. I prolly do this when i install all my parts i bought...

its going to collect dust either way marlon.... unless you completely seal off the filter from the outside...

and if you do that, how is your engine going to draw air?

Via the stock snorkle in place... in addition to the theororized one down below...

on the 03/04's room is available if you relocate the sprayer res. APS makes a pretty nice kit doing just that:

http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/evo/evo7/hfa/duct.jpg

http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/evo/evo7/hfa/hfa_installed.jpg

You could probably cut out the stock box to hide that very easily.

http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/us_spec/evo/water_spray/water-spray-bottle-in-car.jpg

On the 05+ it is much harder as the ACD res is there and the ACD pump below it. I think I might try relocating the ACD res and extending the hoses to it. I'm just wondering if the pump will be up to the task.

^^^ thats true. I like the APS intake a lot because it is one of the only ones besides maybe the various unduction boxes (HKS, Apexi) that draws air from a cooler, un-heatsoaked area.

yes i know what you plan to do. by my reply was questioning marlon. since he's not using the stock snorkle because he doesnt want "dust" to get in...

watch out for puddles with that aps . its a nice looking piece but i am too weary about getting water in it. if my idea fails horribly i guess i can give it a shot lol

splashed from the front though?

I always figured that the air coming off the hot tarmac wasn't as cold as the air higher up. Which is why i originally got that hood scoop for my open air element (although the scoop does increase drag :?). I'm contemplating doing that again but with the heat sheild ideal i had above which also pulls in some air from the lower section, but most would be coming from the hood scoop and stock snorkel. See what i'm sayin? Plus it seems like the added length of the intake track would not be beneficial.

Does anyone have any sort of dyno runs as to how this APS intake performs? i've never seen any numbers on it...

Thats b/c its so damn expensive, you gotta buy the intake + the waterspray resovoir relocator. As for water damage, it appears that the cone is not COMPLETLEY down by the bumper. Running the undertray would probably have enough safety from water reaching the cone.

ya that's a great point, i need to put mine back on, but i just cant justofy it with those *(#Q^%(#&$(Q*$& stupid plastic fasteners. Been looking into something like the beatrush, not because i need the strength but just because it seems like it's attached better.

If i see some pics of this on a car maybe i'll check it out, but i have literally never seen where this sits...
