Nissan to Launch Next-Generation Skyline GT-R in 2007
AFX News Limited - October 23, 2003

Nissan Motor Co Ltd will launch its new Skyline GT-R sports car model in 2007 according to president and chief executive Carlos Ghosn.

Ghosn said he intends to unveil the new vehicle at the Tokyo Motorshow in 2007 after which it will be launched for sale.

Ghosn said the new "global" version of the longstanding classic will be marketed throughout Europe and the U.S. as well as Japan to make it profitable, and not only in Great Britain and Australia where its market has been limited to date as a right-hand drive car.

I really hope it lives up to the heritage of the older Skylines, but somehow, I think we are going to be let down.

I agree...in fact...last I read, that car is not even based on the Skyline platform....its is just going to be labelled as the "Nissan GT-R".

Any word it is going to be released with some super high compression, naturally aspirated VQ series? If so, it's going to be easy to skip it.

I've actually heard that it will be the Infinity GT-R

Yes, here it will be an Infinity and if I remember correctly, it will be powered by a VQ series engine...possibly turbo'd.

I heard it will have electric-motor-assisted turbos. I am not sure how they actually make it, but electric-motors will help reducing turbo lags.

If it lacked a turbo, it just wouldn't be worth the time, effort or $$.

According to the August 2004 issue of Road and Track. "Lotus had been hired to fine-tune the cars handling, which includes developing the suspension and handling." They also wrote this about the engine,"Nissan also has outsourced the development of the GT-R's engine to Cosworth, the noted race-engine builder. We hear Cosworth is massaging Nissan's VQ powerplant to produce 450 bhp. Early reports suggest that the 6-cylinder engine will be turbocharged." -Sam Mitani. They also made a statement that the prototype is currently wearing a G35 shell. So I wonder if this means that it will change at the time of release.

Cosworth makes the most l33t engines. Time to rethink my opinion on this car.

Me no like. Looks like an Infinity on steriods. I like the older version Skyline...especially the R34. Like always, the American market version will be tuned down.

Well..even though our Evos are watered down versions...I have the distinct feeling that the same will happen to the GTR. Its an unfortunate reality, but the next generation Skylines probably won't live up to their I-6 grandfathers.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed..but I have a feeling we'll be let down.

Or this Cosworth engine.

Description from this site: (http://www.race-cars.com/engsales/cosworth/1077724596/1077724596ss.htm) We Have available three (3) of these used ex F1 engines built around 1986, they are the GBA 1.5 litre V6 twin turbocharged engine. They originally produced 750 BHP and can run 1000 BHP with boost and fuel adjustments. They come complete with injectors and ECU's but it would need to be stripped down and checked before running. All other components like manifolds, turbos, flywheel and clutch are all present. £15k is for EACH engine, not for all of them.
