Is it worth it to spend the extra $$$ on a down pipe?
I see the helix and hear good things, but then I see dp's at 3 times the price. What do you guys think?

I think if you're going to get a downpipe, you must get the Helix turbo outlet pipe (pictured below) and high flow cat. Basically make a true turbo back by having the turbo outlet pipe, dp, high flow cat and catback for the best possible flow.

i have the Helix DP and CB and have had great power results. i added the CB first (great power, quicker turbo spool), and then the DP, which yielded in some good pulling power in the upper rpms (about 4k and up). like everyone says, it does have its rubbing/vibration here and there, but for the price and performance, it doesn't bother me too much.

So the more expensive dp's dont rattle or rub? i have the version 1, which had their little glitches. i hear the version 2's (the 2nd batch) were corrected. i will eventually upgrade to the new version in the near future.

The DP i have on my car is the one with the flex pipe so that it flexes when the motor moves... i prefer that one better due to the fact that you dont have to install spacers to the cross bar.. it clears everything with an inch from everything...and its also 3"...i got it on www.Lancershop.com

go with hks dp if you plan to keep the stock turbo. no rubbing issues at all.

I just recently purchased the WORKS 3" ceramic coated DP. NO rubbing issues at all with the cross bars. Fantastic quality compared to some other down pipes I have seen. Will compliment the soon to be released WORKS O2 housing and High flow cat. Here are some pics.

With lotsa room to spare! Good job on the downpipe design!

ultimate racing thermal wrapped w/ flex section very nice and cheap too, ive heard of BR flanges being ripped off when torque is bumped up alot

Which flange is this? Is it the one at the o2 housing? That wouldn't surprise me since the BR downpipes do away w/ the donut gasket and spring bolts which makes the whole exhaust solid and no room to flex. All the load from the weight of the exhaust will cantilever off that flange whenever you go over bumps, etc. Bad design and unreliable IMO.

I'll pass the info along. If I remember correctly, WORKS went through 21 prototypes on the 76mm Exhale DP to make sure it was exactly how we wanted it

Well, that comment was just based off that picture posted here. I don't actually have the WORKS downpipe on my car.

I am thinking about getting a 70mm WORKS DP when I get a cat-back. I think I read something like 70mm DP actually makes more power than 76mm with stock cat.

Is stock cat inlet around 67mm?

hehe.. I actually have an HK$ downpipe on my car already to match my cat-back. I did just install a WORKS rear sway bar on my car though. ;)

The 70mm downpipe is better if you plan on staying with the stock O2 housing. However, if you plan on upgrading to the new WORKS high flow cat and WORKS O2 housing coming out soon( exactly what I am waiting for) then you will make more power with the 76mm downpipe/ WORKS O2 housing combo. Jamie can correct me if I am wrong.
