I just put in 10w30 full synthetic of Royal Purple. I heard so many times that Royal Purple was the best. So I decided to give it a shot.

Do I think it helped?
Meh. Its ok. Not day and night difference. What I want to get next maybe is an Oil Temp Gauge.

how much per quart?

Royal Purple is pretty good stuff. I used to run it, but just don't expect it to perform miracles or anything. You're not gonna notice "10% more power" or whatever they claim. And no, you can't drain it out and run the engine without oil.

Tried that one already. Didn't work. ;)

Just use a good name brand Full Synthetic motor oil. Some like Royal Purple some like Castrol Syntec while others prefer Mobil 1. Actually I use Royal Purple but might try this brand:

Mobil1 all the way. Tried Castrol before, gave me knocks here and there and the car ran a bit sluggish.

Castrol is not a full synthetic... the base oils it uses are not synthetic. But it is probably one of the best dino-oil based motor oils.

Really though, you should not feel a difference. Most oils are pretty good these days.

Running Amsoil 10w-30 and no Knocks at 100 TPS. At 96-99 Degrees on Intake Temp on and VIII running 100 TPS and no knock (1 knock sum in mid). Must be a good thing. LOL

3.98x Liters (approx 4 qts) $27.93 which might be cheaper than Mobile 1. However the EVO does require approx 4.xx of oil so your probably gonna have to buy an extra quart

I have been at the dyno when they have tested royal purple against mobil 1 and picked up about 5 solid hp. Some runs were higher but the lowest was 5 higher so I figure it was worth at least a couple, and that was back to back fresh oil not old mobil1 to new RP. The car was ran on mobil 1 then a fresh change with new mobil1 5-30 then swapped out for new RP and new filter also in 5-30 first run was 7hp more with dyno room temps 1degree hotter so it shouldnt have had a huge effect on it then each run there after was at least 5-8hp higher with one run 10 up from base line. Not a exactly perfect test but good enough for me.

Not even close to a halfway decent test. I wouldn't put much weight in that article.

how so? the put friction/heat and weight with absorbtion to the test. You can really tell the diff. between oils. Look at the scarring.

There's alot more to oils than that one test. And if you didn't notice, all the oils were of different weights.

I run either motul or ams oil. Some of the best two oils you can buy on the market. They are also about the same price as leading full synthetics. Worth the money since its the heart of your engine and decides whether it lives or dies.

I would think it best to stick with OEM Mobil 1. It is recommended in the manual..

LOL Not going to wait 17k-35k to do an oil change. Probably the normal 3k, maybe 4k interval.

USE AMSOIL!!! But don't change your oil that often, you'll just waste your money. You can go 10-15 just fine. I can contest this in about 5k more miles when I get my oil analyzed and post the results. I also have it in all my driveline fluids.

You guys should consider talking to some people that are involved with motorsports and get their oil analyzed. I had this conversation with a friend from a shop a few weeks ago and not only is he saving me money but Im VERY confident that he is saving me wear on my motor as well.... Unless you speak to someone first hand who is truly unbiased, dont believe a single thing you hear or read about oil. When I use to help out some friends who raced ama we would send out oil and some of the most expensive stuff was really disappointing. Same with car oil. I was paying $7.50-$8.00qt for royal purple and although its not bad Ill now be paying about $6qt or less for better stuff. :D

What did your friend tell you that saves you money and wear on your engine?

I'm just gonna stick to Mobil 1 'cause that's what I've used for years.

How's the amsoil transmission fluid? I'm considering either the amsoil, or the syntorq stuff that milspec is selling.

Here's a writeup I wrote a while ago. Worth a read:

I consider it a great alternative to diaqueen. Feels about the same, but seems to stay consistent and cleaner for longer.

Looking back....I really need to update it. :?
