Hey all...pretty soon I'm gonna have to get some new tires [not A046's too much $$$] and Im hoping some of you will post your experiences with various tires that you have used on your Evo's. If you could share the brand/model/size along with your verdict that would be grrreat.

Toyo T1-S 235/45/17. Just about as grippy as the AO46s but obviously priced better. We can meet up and you can check out the tires sometime if you want, Petie boy.

Falken Azenis sport 245 45 17.. cheap.. great on dry (corners like a motha!!.. never tried in the rain (but I'm sure it would perform poor)... a little hard ride, kind of noisy... but for the price and the performance, you cant beat it.

Paid $500 shipped for my Falken Azenis Sports 245/45-17s. Very grippy, sidewalls stiff enough to put up with almost any abuse. Heavy though, and the tall profile makes them look huge on my car. Also, the huge tread blocks may cause hydroplaning to occur rather easily with any amount of standing water.

Paid about $520 for 245/40-17 Kumho Ecsta MXs. They were very grippy as well but the sidewalls didn't hold up very well for autocross... maybe in part due to me overdriving the car, but still the wear marks 1/3 the way up the lettering on the sidewall didn't inspire confidence. I think they would have held up better with higher pressures and slightly better driving. I'd say they're better for all-around driving than the Falkens, specifically they should fare better in the wet.

245/45/17 a032r, not exactly cheap and probably won't last as long as the a046, but the dry grip is crazy and very light around 24lb, cost around 190 per tire at tire rack.

Falken Azenies Sport 245/45/17

Ok on the track, great on the road, getting louder as the wear (6k miles) cheap.

600 out the door.

YEah. I am leaning more toward the T1-S vs S-03...also looking at the Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S...anyone use that one up in here?

One EVO owner I met at San Rafael Mitsu and one old gentleman with a 3000GT VR-4 at car wash recommended me S-03, they said it dos not give harsh ride, and it is pretty quiet. I guess it's better for everyday driving. But quite pricy though. I was quoted $940 at Sears like two months ago.

Also I just noticed that Bridgestone has brought back the re730...this was my favorite tire for the GVR4...good in all seasons and not too much $$$.

What about the Bridgestone RE050s? I'm curious about these; their treadwear rating is 140--the minimum treadwear for SCCA auto-x "street tire" rules. I'm wondering if such a low treadwear rating translates to a more grippy compound.

So how do you like the PS2's compared to the stock advans? My main concern is losing the steering response since that's one of the things I like most about the EVO.

Tam,

Is that the only tire you're considering? Here's a good thread talking about good motorsport tires. The Toyo RA1's seem to get too reviews and has a 140 treadwear rating.

The RA-1 is a competition radial ("r compound") and its UTQG treadwear rating is 40 not 140.

after looking at a few #' and reviews i really like the GoodYear Eagle F1 GS-D3 with longer tread than stock, and the Pirelli P Zero M+S all season tire with the best treadwear i've seen on a comparable tire so far. i'll probably be needing some by the end of the year.

I just put on a set of RA-1's today for a track day at thunderhill tommorrow, and the tread rating is clearly stated as 100.
Also, these things are NICE on the road. Much stickier than advans, with a SLIGHTLY softer sidewall. They are smother, so the car actually rides more comfortably, and they are quieter. For my next set of summer road tires I will be getting a nother set, 235-40-17, keeping them at full tread depth, and running them may-september. Will run my ES 100's in the winter, which is all they are good for in norcal.
