I picked up 5 OEM Oil filters yesterday at the Mitsu dealership. When the parts guy gave the filters, it had a different part # which is MZ690116 compared to the ones that I always get which is part # MD356000. I asked him about it why it's different, and he showed me on the computer that the one's he gave me are replacing the MD356000 filters. Not sure how true that is.

Well, I got home and compared the two. Right away, I already can tell the difference. The weight is slightly lighter and the filter design is different compared to the old one.

Here are few pix that I took today

Thanks for the info. I think either filter model, old or new, is just fine. For all we know they may have switched to making the new filter with cheaper components or materials--so it's not even necessarily better in any way. Besides, switching to a "new and improved" filter isn't gonna give you any more WHP.

The coupon was mailed to me! I think I get them 4 times a year whenever the season changes.

Strange, but I've had this filter on mine since September. However, this is the one I was given from a dealership in Ohio, not local. No complaints here ;)

I get mail from both Capitol (probably because I bought my '01 Eclipse at Stevens Creek... or maybe because I bought some oil and filters there for my Evo) and Hayward (where I bought my Evo). The latter is usually one of those "it's time for your xxxx mile service" but the letter includes something like a 10% coupon for parts and/or service.

On a somewhat related note. At the same time as getting my tranny fixed I got my 3k service done. Ended up paying $118.49 for it. :x

Invoice came out to:
Labor: $60.01
Mobil1: $57.65
Filter: $7.97
10% discount: -$12.56
Tax: $5.42
Getting f'ing ripped off on scheduled maintenance: priceless

Next time I'll do the damned thing myself.

Uh, lowest price I've seen for 5 quarts of 10W30 Mobil1 is about $25. I don't know what they're pouring into your engine but I'm guessing it's not good... :?

Hum......$25 bucks for 5 quarts.....that's turns out to be $5 bucks a quarts. I get my Mobil1 for $3.79 a quart (any viscosity). So I guess I am okay. I thought I could get it cheaper somewhere else. But I am still looking around for a better deal. :D
