i just got a 91 Nissan NX1600 (automatic) for my daily commuter/beater. not to bad since it was free and it only has 50,000 miles on it from the original owner (my uncle). can't really say free since it's currently not running. it just needs a new alternator and a tune up which should hopefully cost under $250 out of my pocket. not bad for a 14yr old car. it's in pretty good shape new tires, no dents or scratches, paint is a little faded but for a commuter who cares.

for those of you who are not familiar with the nx, it replaced the nissan pulsar and was built from 1991 to 1993. it came in two models a NX1600(1.6L) and NX2000(2.0L).

my evo needs a break, after a year it has almost 24,000 miles on her. i will try to only drive her on the weekends. lets see how long that last.

i was hoping this thread could be used as a show and tell for members' other cars aka beaters.

i will post pics when i get the nx washed this weekend.

oh well, i thought it would be a cool/fun idea to see what other cars members are driving besides their evos, especially if that other car is a beater.

i'm sure there are others members here that are currently using or looking for an alternative car for long commutes. i would love to drive my evo every day but at the rate i'm going i will have 100,000 miles on her in no time.

anyways, i'm just glad i got the nissan to use for my daily commute. now i can give my evo a break and just drive her on the weekends.

I almost wish I did have something else to drive myself. I mean, i'm only about to break 3k miles on the evo, but I want to keep it as new as I can as long as I can. But then I remember that I wouldn't be able to not drive it. I do wish I had my old honda though. before everyone gets crazy at me for wanting a honda, you have to admit, those are some well built durable cars. Plus, mine was a 92, and when your driving a twelve year old car that only has 20,000 miles on it, you can't complain.

I had a Honda Civic as a commuter when I had my S4...super reliable and just needed gas and oil. Nothing wrong with that :D .

I don't spend enough time in the EVO. I drive the beater all the time. Work is soo close that the Evo hardly gets warmed up when I do take it. I have had the Evo since October of '03 and have yet to brake 3000 miles. I do chage the oil every few months though.

I agree. I have a 91 DA Integra all stock and it's been maintenance free. Can't also complain the 87 octane gas that it takes. :D

I used to have a little beater. '91 Celica GT-S. I got rid of it a little while ago, but I'm wishing I didn't now. It was a great daily driver. I am actually thinking of picking up an '88 Pontiac Fiero....I've seen one in the San Mateo area for pretty cheap and it's nicely restored New engine, paint job, rims and brakes for about 4 grand. IF this does happen, I'll post some pics.

kimmievo - i remember when the '88 fieros first came out, i was in 8th grade and was in love with the car. i didn't know squat about the performance but thought the styling was so sporty. that would be a cool one to have. i haven't seen one on the road in a long time. hope you end up getting it, please post pics if you do.

Here is my beater when I'm in the philippines.. its a Korean made Mercedes Van MB100.. Slow as hell!! Noisy (deisel) but seats 15 people.. it has subs, 2 monitor, DVD/VCD Blaupunk Audio system. Its not the one on the picture, but it is exactly the same (even the color).
