In summary: the base compound of the Falken FK-451 tires use the same compound as the Azenis Sports, but the FK-451s are available in many more sizes, and are even cheaper ($110 each for 245/40-17 at VulcanTire). Some people are now buying them, shaved, for autocross.

Anybody know where you can get tires shaved, or buy them shaved, around here?

Will 255s fit (well) on the stock 17x8 rims?

You have to shave them down to 4/32" (1/8") so it wouldn't last very long... Of course, for us Evo people, the 245/45-17 Azenis Sport is a perfectly viable option. I wouldn't mind having lower-profile tires though. One of the advantages of the Azenis Sports is their very strong sidewall; don't know if I'd get that with the FK-451.

yes, 255's will fit, hmm... these or RA-1s... now I have a dilemma...

I have 17x9, but RoadRace has fitted 255's on the stock 17x8

What the dilemma? Dot-r tires(RA-1) and standard tires are two different animals all together.
