So... does anyone here actually use a tool like the DL-1, G2X, TraqView, or MaxQ (ReSin just told me about this today). I'm starting to look at the MaxQ product since people have been actively using it for autox with good results (see forums at www.maxqdata.com). It also looks like it hooks up to video nicely, as shown in this video:

Anyhow, just wondering. I think it would be cool to try out sometime.

Maybe I posted in the wrong forum, but doesn't anyone have any experience with dataloggers? :)

I ended up picking up a MQGPS to use at the next SCCA slush event. It will be interesting to ride with some people in a different class and log their runs as well. This thread sold me: http://sccaforums.com/forums/1/227266/ShowThread.aspx. It sounds like the MQGPS is good enough for noobs like myself, as well as seasoned people. And for only $300, you can't go wrong.

I will post results from the 10/21 SCCA AutoX and 11/3 GGLC AutoX here.

Now I just have to look for a solution to mount my phone. Thank goodness it is already running Windows Mobile 5, so the other part of the system is "free". :)

I was thinking about using this with my 8525:

I know someone else here on NCE has a nice mount (for the same phone), but I couldn't find the thread.

Can I ride with you if the timing works out for the 10/21 slush event? I'm not sure where to mount the device yet, but I figure a clip on the visor should work out okay as a common spot between Evos. Except for Dan's, I bet. ;)

Dave...of course you can ride with me. I believe XP is in the first run group, as the rotation is suppose to continue to rotate. I'll look when T2 SM is running.

I just received the MQDATA today! I haven't had time to really use it, but I have gotten it connected to my phone, and the application is working. I can see the satellites and read 0MPH sitting at my desk. ;)

So... do you guys want me to just drive around the block and post up pics of what it all looks like?

Just got the unlock code from Ed, so now I can capture my position at 5Hz... yay! Once my son goes to sleep, maybe I'll sneak out of the house for a few minutes. :)

Here's a teaser pic:

No rush...you have a little bit of time to get acquitted with it.

Yeah... I'm going to play with the auto start mode to see how well it really works. I doubt I will be able to reach my phone when starting the course, so it's nice that there's a feature where it starts logging automatically. I'll do a couple of runs tomorrow and will post up pictures of the interface, and how it allows you to compare runs.

Get a belt clip for you phone and attach it to yourself or your harness...

Interesting idea. I already bought a suction cup mount for the phone, but I like the belt clip idea, too. That will be my backup plan. We'll see how well the suction mount holds. :)

You can put the suction cup mount on the airbag part of the steering wheel...now that is convenient...hopefully it won't go flying out the window though...but it would be kinda funny if you were working the course, and then all of the sudden a cell phone comes flying to ya as the kaa passes ya...

I'm going to try the windshield first. I should probably have a strap on it, just in case. Maybe I should find a different spot in the cabin and use screws to mount it instead. I'm going to make a bracket with suction cups for the GPS module, which should work fine since it's really light.

wow, this gadget is simply amazing. it is more than enough for me to analyze my runs to see where I lose and gain time. setup is ridiculously easy and when in the car, totally hands-free. I can't wait to post a video / screenshots for you guys! For 300 clams, this is easily one of the best mods I have ever purchased. Maybe later on I will set up the camera in the evo and will post a live demo of how it all works.

Yay, I finally got to post a demo! I used the PC software here, but the Pocket PC s/w is literally the same thing, just a slightly different layout.

Enjoy!

Yeah, it will be really interesting to compare our runs! Hopefully, it will help me learn a thing or two about how to drive properly out there.

DoggDicker

I think if you take different lines during runs 1 and 2...compare them and use the best lines for run #3...equals improvement. Also...putting it in my kaa, you can see what I did different too. Also, you can ride along with me. I'm thinking about doing two run groups, so I can get 6 runs in. I'm hoping that my Dad will show up too, as he as never seen me run before, let along ride in my Evo...
