This is the perfect chance to see your favorite, not so favorite and never heard of before tuners duke it out on Streets of Willow AND get some track time with in a non timed event with a qualified instructor.

Sure,signup as a privateer.
Probably gets outgunned though, with all the other highly modded evos.
Looks like one of the ones to beat is robi!!
He is one of the very best!
 :urock:

JanSolo

Yeah I get this feeling that Robi will do quite well there, though the competition looks to be quite fierce.

You can run on the track in a non competitive driving school that is untimed (good for insurance reasons if something goes wrong). I am looking forward to participating in that since Streets of Willow is a great track for cars with a tight, responsive suspension.

If the Cartooners show up at this like they did for the "big" "STI/EVO?NORCAL/SOCAL meet there will be nothing to see. In the future whoever started that thread should keep their thought to themselves...(or do you want part of the $1,200.00 I spent to run this "event") Oh EVOtuner.com KICKED EVEYONES COLECTIVE ASSES. (They showed up with SLICKS!)...and came from SALT LAKE CITY!!!!! want thier travel bill for this joke of an event?

lol i should be back in full force by the end of the week when i get my new comp :) i gave up on the old one so im just gonna ew-boot the whole thing and pass it on the kids.so daddy got a new toy ;)

hey jan casa de fruta is a good place to meet up since its pretty close to I-5

JanSolo
11-01-2004, 10:04 PM
Ok we can plan for that. I figure we can meet at Casa De Fruita around 9pm on December 3rd and then drive down to the meet caravan style. Everyone should try to get a hotel in Lancaster - which is the crystal meth capitol of the world, in case anyone is wondering. So if you can't score an 8 ball of meth there, you got problems.

Back on topic.

I'll talk to KK and see if he or Aaron from Speedventures has worked out any kind of discounts on hotels for those who plan to sleep in a bed while there and not in their cars.

I suppose we should divide this into two groups. One group who is going to go down on friday night and sleep at a hotel overnight and another group who plans to go down there on saturday morning, aka the day of the event.

So who is all is planning to attend besides myself, Wilson and Marcel? Class? Anyone? Anyone?

Caravan for the meet is going to be leaving on Friday night. If you plan on driving down with the caravan, please post here so we can start planning this. If you guys have any questions on lodging, please let me know. A number of people are going to be staying at the Inn of Lancaster (http://yp.yahoo.com/py/ypMap.py?Pyt=Typ&tuid=F-YTR0020368209&ck=818451153&tab=B2C&tcat=7737307&city=Lancaster&state=CA&uzip=93534&country=us&msa=4480&cs=4&ed=jNwXeK1o2TxwilToKsS0AJ3XB53hOG1UhiQXb59wSWk2sg--&fb=1&stat=:pos:1:fb:regT:2:fbT:3).

The Speedventures event is still on. The POC event was supposed to happen before speedventures booked the date for the shoot-out. So the website is just wrong. We are good to go. SOW is about 360 miles from sacto. Right near Lancaster.

I was signed up, but had to change due to a work committment. I'm going to do a track day at Laguna Seca on Dec. 21 instead. Anyone that is interested in that, it's through NCRC. The SOW even has VERY FEW Evos signed up for the "driving school"....

only problem with laguna seca is if you have an aftermarket exhaust you will get kicked out because of there strict sound enforcement.. i instruct for skip barber and we run programs there all the time and even on our formula cars we have to muffle them even more than usual..

well the EVO Tuner Shootout and driving school will be fun to go to.. lots of EVO owners will be there spectating or racing.. lots of stuff to be raffled off as well..

we can make this the largest EVO meet if we get a good amount of Nor Cal and So Cal evo's there.. hope to see you out there..

I don't think that's true. They're measuring sound somewhere next to the track. The limit is 92dB. Now most Evo aftermarket exhausts are louder than that... when measured at 18" away from the exhaust tip. From 20' away (or whatever the distance is) I don't think it's going to be a problem. There are a lot of racecars a heck of a lot louder than you could ever make your Evo.

http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Track/tracknoise.htm

From Doug Hayashi:

If possible, you should do the following:
1. Buy big coffee cans, put them on your exhaust, cut half of the top, pull it up and deflect sound away from sound meter. Use big hose clamps and tighten them extremely tight.
2. Put your stock exhaust on for this event. I went to Laguna Seca last weekend, and decided just to put my stock exhaust on instead of the Comptech exhaust, so I don't have to deal with the 92 db requirement... OR
3. If you plan on going to this track a lot, maybe have a local muffler shop fabricate something you can clamp onto the comptech exhaust tips and point the exhaust away from where the sound stations are. I think I may go this route for NSXPO. I was three seconds faster than Wayne at Willow Springs with the Comptech exhaust on, but only a half second or so faster than him at Laguna with stock exhaust on last weekend. (true, it is an apples to oranges comparison, but that's my excuse).

The limit at Laguna Seca is 92dB at 50 feet.

ZENTRAEDIevo
11-22-2004, 09:15 PM
the sound measuring building is drivers right right after turn 5.. you can use the whole coffee can thing to divert the noise.. but ive been in a stock car and had gone over there sound limit.. 92db isnt that loud.. it all depends on the day too.. just letting you know.. before you go there and they tell you after your first session that you need to make your car quieter or you cant run..

You are right...this is why I have decided to do two days (dec 11,12) at T-hill instead...:)
I think part of my resistance to SOW is that the track seems to be like a large autocross course or something...very small, low speed. I know it's good to further develop car control skills , etc...but it's a long way from Sac. I wish they would have planned this event for buttonwillow.

Percy

Percy

ZENTRAEDIevo
11-24-2004, 02:51 PM
yeah SOW is a tighter track with low speed corners... where buttonwillow would have been the ideal place.. but with costs of rental and location played a factor to SOW.. ;)

laguna seca is a great track! wish those sound people would magically not show up!!

well i HOPE all of you come down next weekend!! will be fun to meet with you all and have two days of tracking the EVO...

Ill wait for leguna seca being its 5 minutes up the street..just to comment on the sound issue. During big event weekends you can here the cars screaming from my house and across the entire area. The sound really travels, thus the sound limitations. My RsR setup is not that loud and i should have a problem on that track.

ZENTRAEDIevo
11-25-2004, 07:04 PM
yeah for the large raceweekends.. champ car, alms, superbike... the sound restrictions are not in effect.. any other day they vary from 85db - 102db..

The plan for the caravan is pretty simple.

We plan to meet up at Casa De Fruita at 8pm, which is located between Los Banos and Gilroy, on Highway 152. The plan is to meet there at 8pm and depart around 8.15 to 8.30.

If anyone is planning on going and wants to meet up in the San Jose area, please PM so we can make plans to meet up somewhere.

A couple things to note - Streets of Willow is going to be very cold. I would definitely plan on bringing plenty of layers to stay warm and kindling for a small fire, unless you are a manly man and want to prove how powerful you are by wearing shorts and a tshirt the entire time.

If this is your first time at a track, definitely take the time to suck up to one of the more experienced drivers and ask for a ride along. It will be one of the most eye opening & englightening experiences you will have driving wise.
