My buddy just got ticketed for doing 94 in a 65 mph zone, by a CHP.

When i asked "Will he be able to attend traffic school for this violation?" The cop replied "No, there will be a mandatory 30 day suspension." The ticket shows it is an infraction tho..

I already know 94mph on a public road is dangerous and stupid. So please, no comments, i'm just looking for advice.
I just want to know what hes looking at. Has anyone been through this before? I cant seem to find much info on Google. Thanks

Once you go past a certain speed limit over the set limit it's an instant violation. So if he was doing 70 in a 65, no bid deal, but 90mph? Big infraction.

Dont worry bro, I have got 2 tickets since buying the evo on freeways. One at 95mph and the other at 90mph (actually clocked me at 98), Â*The 95 was in a 65 down in LA driving back from my friends house in san diego 2 weeks after buying the evo, the 2nd was in july going to a track day at t-hill - be carefull especially the last few miles. Â*I was 1 exit away from the damn race track exit on the freeway when old smokie clocked me at 98 and gave me a 90 in a 70.

Both tickets were around 400 a piece, and my insurance went up 350 for the year this year; but no suspension - only 2 fat points on my record.

My cousin got his license suspended for 30 days for "20mph over the limit".

Friend got 60 day license suspension for like 103mph on 65.

Heard that "20+mph" thing a few times for 30 day suspension.

Can't go to traffic if you go over 20 mph, over the speed limit(65mph)

Did the DMV suspend your license after the 90 mph ticket?

used to be that anything over 25+ the limit can be considered a wreckless offense and carries a 2 point hit as well.
not sure that is the case anymore. thankfully no firsthand experience in quite some time :)

I dunno what the consequence will be, mine was dismissed in the cops face @ court.

You most likely are facing a $800 fine (my 70 in a 40 was 500) and 2-3 points.

traffic school is not an option over I think 25mph over. they refused my 70 in a 40 for and said that. My insurance on the evo went up 50 bucks (but that includes a claim) from 133 to 177.

$800? That seems a bit high. I am thinking more along the lines of $400-500.

How'd you get dismissed?

I embarrased the cop in court, challenged him and made him look stupid for driving in the carpool lane by himself in his tahoe that pulled me over. Plus, I made a point to say Im innocent until proven guilty, so prove me guilty.

800 bucks should be about right depending on the area and the higher you go (higher speeds) above the limit (any closer to 100) would be considered wreckless driving and the car can be impounded for doing 100. So the closer you get to that, the more you pay. All depends on the judge.

Damn, $800 is steep. I guess it all depends on the County and Judge.
Funny thing is it was the first time he didnt have is Radar detector in the car in a long time. Thats shitty luck.
I wont drive around my block without my Valentine one pluged in.
Thanks guys, I guess we will see how the judge feels about this one.

Yup, that is a hot spot on I5, always slow down 10 miles before you get to/leaving from Willows/Thunderhill

^You are extremely lucky (no suspension) and are the exception my friend.
It was my understanding that if you were caught going 20 over, it was automatic suspension, but I guess it comes down to the popo and how he/ she marks it. G/l to your friend.

^^ What do you mean, how he marks it ? There's no "suspend license" box

I got a ticket on my bike for 23 over, and nobody acted like it was a big deal. I was eligible for traffic school too but I ended up getting it dismissed so I didn't need it.

As far as insurance goes, under 100mph = 3 year violation/rates high for 3 years.... over 100mph = 7 years

Well I was detained for that one but not for long. I don't know, when I got pulled over like that with 4 cruisers around me, I know I am fucked. I don't BS the cops, I take the keys out of the ignition, put it on the dash, leave my seat belt on, and leave my hands on the steering wheel/or up and have an air of guilt. I suppose at an extent they respect that and alot of things they tell me I already know and assure them that I can't fuck around and that I know the law because I am a pre-law student. A mix of guilt, compliance, and a careful concocted set of answers will get you out of deep shit. I only posted the speeds at which I got cited for, ive been pulled over many times (not proud of it or anything) and got away with a slap on the wrist.

95 in a 65 zone. 280 in san mateo county. 1st offence. judge gave me traffic school and fined me, i think $150. no suspension, no DMV record. theres a post somewhere on the board about it from about 2 years back. cop was nice to me to write 95 on the ticket, i was actually doing considerably more as i was late for a wedding.

I'm a big time jerk on most occassions. But when it's a cop involved, I know my place and I NEVER test them. I know they know the law, and I don't need them to prove it to me.
