both will make your car stumble and possibly idle like complete crap if you do not recirc

the hks will give you that high pitched chirp though.

oh yeah actually im gonna have the recirc in either one, but i was wondering to see which one would be a better choice, i like HKS more i dont know y, lol thanks BYT

if you recirculate, you wont really get a wissheew sound, atleast it won't be that loud, cause i had k&n intake with greddy rs 100% recirculate, and you hear it inside the cabin, and lightly from the outside, but its nothing light 100% venting

i'd recommend 50/50 or adjustable bov, like aps or gfb, i think the aps would be more reliable...since i have went through aps, turbosmart, and gfb(all adjustable bov) and the gfb is kind of confusing, since when you adjust the spring you dont really know where its at, since it just spings forever, but its easier to adjust how much u want to vent since u can turn it wiht ur hand vs a wrench

yea....goodluck...ill shut up now

How loud do you want it to be? Do you want it to attract major attention, from some unwanted places (Cops) ? If you want the Pshhh sound, get an open air intake before changing it. With my AEM intake, and my Dejon Tools modded Jdm Ix bov, you can audibly hear it even with my music on.

not way too loud but you know a little bit loud, not crazzy loud lol

Travisivart190
12-28-2007, 01:08 AM
Well, I would do an open intake first. In my mind, just a vent to atmosphere sound isn't enough to warrant your car running badly, and the increased attention from cops. Just my .02

yeah i was wondering to see if i can just make it little tiny big laouder than stock bov, you know just a little of the psh sound lol

Travisivart190
12-28-2007, 01:11 AM
Oh, the stock airbox really restricts the sound. I could barely hear it with the stock airbox. I'm just affirming this, but you have the stock airbox right?

yes i do

Travisivart190
12-28-2007, 01:18 AM
Oh yeah, well in that case check out an aftermarket intake. You'll hear it a lot more than you would think. I'd definitely check out GST's Budget Eleventy Billion Air filter :P Either that or I highly recommend my AEM.

thanks travis, how much do they coast usually ? or evena used one lol plus is it good to even have an intake , am i gonna loose power ?

uhoh_evo
12-28-2007, 01:21 AM
He's getting a bov for the spring rate. Same thing imma proly be doin soon cuz our 03 VIII's have the plastic dv.

I was told the RS w/ recirculating was a good choice as the softer spring should suffice for the boost you lookin at. No personal experience myself tho.

Oh and w/ my stock dv and an open air filter I can hear it loud and clear! ;)

Travisivart190

You might lose a tad bit of power, but it's really beneficial once you're reaching 300 Wheel. Bryan did a flow chart, and the stock airbox is really restrictive after 300 Wheel. The only reason you'd lose power would be because you aren't tuned for it. The Gst Budget air filter is fairly cheap. It bolts on directly to your stock Maf, and is under 100$ (I believe.) My Aem unit was 200$ or so, but it has a hard pipe. Really a lot of preference.

lol thanks uhoh, but what do you mean by open air filter ? i have a stock bov right now, so can i do anything to it right now to hear it ? with outh chaning my bov ? lol

Travisivart190
12-28-2007, 01:26 AM
He means an open air intake, similar to the AEM unit, or GST's budget unit.

oh nice so you think i should get that HKS bov installed and then get that stock MAf ?

Travisivart190
12-28-2007, 01:30 AM
Oh no no. I think you should get an aftermarket open air intake. The HKS bov will make your car run badly. Not worth the money.

oh got u, so i need an intake then, where can i find a used one u think travis, and what brand you recomment ? lol and yes im pussing more than 300 hps for sure

Travisivart190
12-28-2007, 01:32 AM
Well it depends on how much you're willing to spend. If you'd like a new one that's fairly cheap, I'd recommend GST's.

WWEVOVIII
12-28-2007, 01:34 AM
oh shit, so i dont need no blow offf valve then ?
im sorry man im so confused lol, and keep on asking u question lol i feel bad lol as of right now i have a greaddy type rs bov, but i was trying to see if i should give it away and get a HKS, so should i install any after market bovs or not keep my stock on and just get a air intake ?

Travisivart190
12-28-2007, 01:35 AM
Oh, sorry I misunderstood. I would. Definitely talk to one of the vendors, and see what they can offer you. Hit up GST to see how much their budget air filter is. It's a mod, for the money, that will make horsepower.

My fault. W/ just that open element INTAKE and stock bov you can HEAR a big difference! But I would keep your Greddy RS cuz it will hold more boost better than your stock one could. On my stocker I could barely hold 19 psi.

Oh, and dun worry about having your car run badly. As long as you have that recirculating kit then you'll be good.

Travisivart190
12-28-2007, 01:54 AM
Yeah, pick up a Dejon Tools leak stop kit or a Jdm Ix Bov, or you could do what I did and grab a Dejon tools leak stop kit for your Ix :D Shit holds boost like a champ :P

Dont really need a leak stop kit unless looking into running a little higher boost on some setup aka cams or an fp. All you need buddy is a Metal IX Diverter Valve (goes for about $100 from the vendors around here) and a GST filter ($30) from GST motorsports in Hayward. That really is all you need for the sound and without making your car run like shit not to mention youre in no dire need of a tune on that setup with the stock MAF

Your best bet is probably to hit up a few meets first and check out different people's set ups. Many have cone filters already and some have BOVs. If you're nice, ask for a few rides and see what you think. Then make a decision for yourself based on that.

i had a RS BOV AT 100% Atmosphere BLow off.. it has aloud Whooosh sound but it doesnt recirculate.. so i picked up a GFB and its at 70/30 and its doing fine for me.. just as loud as the RS but it recirculates.. thats why im tryin to sale my RS BOV LOL but no one wants it... haha :?

dont use a hks. EIP can tell you I well as I that they have seen a few ssqv's blow @ 25psi on a subi on the dyno.

Run a recirc. valve. there are a few good ones out there. just make sure the valve inside is metal not plastic.

uhoh_evo
12-28-2007, 11:37 AM
Like I said, the RS is good as long as you recirculate it. So get a cone intake and recirculation kit and for about $70 you're good.

I've heard some stories where some people have had the Greddy RS break on them. I guess the diaphram (sp) in there rips and they dont sell replacement parts for it. You just have to buy a new bov.

uhoh_evo
12-28-2007, 04:22 PM
^in that case then dun get the RS!

Save yourself money and a future headache. Get a metal IX diverter valve and a cone filter....thats all you need for sound, driveabilty, and performance.

WWEVOVIII
12-28-2007, 06:20 PM
the problem is that i already purchased a greddy rs bov, but im not gonna install it i guess i have to purchase a metal ix bov for evo 9 and have it installed, and im trying to sell my greddy tho

I have to agree with th buy a cone filter and you will have a completely different sound as far as a bov.... I have an evo 8 with injen upper and lower intercooler piping and intake with a 9 diverter amd boy-o-boy does it sound sexy even at 3000 rpm it sounds so good!!
