The K&N Typhoon has a CARB exemption number, executive order # D-269-27.

I think he meant that the stock airbox is pretty free-flowing as it is; an HKS or K&N panel filter will make it even more free-flowing. It's not clear that going to a cone filter will really make a difference.

Well different tuners say different things.

Works says that the hp varies from dyno run to dyno run. One time, they get an increase in hp, other runs a decrease.

Vishnu says that it drops torque and that the stock air box is by no means a limiting factor.

Buschur lists their intake (cone style) as part of their stage 1 package.

On EvoM, one of the feature stories was about an AEM intake. It showed an hp increase up high, but a torque loss.

So, who's right?

vivid racing got rid of their hks rs kit too...in replace of a hks/kensai box instead

everyone has their .02cents reply in dyno results. that facts are, almost every test conducted shows a slight increase in hp, but a loss in tq. you gain and lose, unless u r running an air/fuel controller of some sort. that is if you are just running an air filter. my personal though, is that the ram air style box is there for a reason. but to each his own.
