Yeah the V1 is probably the best thing since sliced bread except does anyone who owns one know if there is a way to make it not read K and X band like on the passport's??

Oh, if you can afford it I would assume the K40 is the ultimate in protection, but being that it is very costly its probably not worth the bang for the buck...maybe someday when I get that Ferrari...

I have the V1, and it's saved me countless times.

As for removing K and X, I believe there is a way to customize it. I wouldn't remove K though as some of the cops still use em. I ran into K-band radar all the time when I used to go home from UC Davis.

Do you guys have any stealthy way of mounting it? Pics please?

I have a V1 mounted on the passenger side sun visor. Used the foam packing in the V1 box to shim the visor to level. Cord is hidden in the A-pillar trim, and I use a remote display down by the power outlet on the console. Just having the LED display not lighting up on the unit helps disguise it, particularly at night, but if the officer is at your window asking for your license he/she will know exactly what it is. That said, I have 3 1/2 years with the V1 and no problems. Plus, the band, # of signals, direction, and signal strength indicator features all increase your situational awareness. If you search V1 on EvoM you will find a very stealthy install with the remote display mounted in the dash clock spot and the V1 unit itself on the back shelf under a hat. Pretty clever, but I was way too lazy for that.

whats the point of having a stealthy install, i mean i dont care who can see it when im driving. Its not like you can get in trouble for it right

I have been driving without a radar detector since I moved to CA 10 years ago. In that time I have had only a single speeding ticket.

you wouldn't believe it from the way I drive.

Is it true that the V1 has a passive laser jamming that delays the laser gun from picking your speed right away?!
So in case of being tagged, you have a sec to slow down (only works if you are not speeding like crazy)

I asked that because we already went over it in the other thread that it's useless to detect laser.
When your laser detector goes off, the LEO already has your speed in his gun.

It's not true. The V1 is only a lidar/radar detector. There are "parking assistants" that just happen to work on the same frequency as laser.

After getting a ticket on my way home I decided it was time to buy the legendary V1 and *knock on wood* have not gotten a ticket in 2 years of speeding. As for ordering the V1 you'll want to do that by calling the order in. Their web site is broken.

belltronics 995 from circuit city works great

Escort 850 blue no tixs, and it is rated higher than the V1. . .

Segfault

The V1 uses a beeping sound, but the frequency and pattern tell you what type of radar it is so you don't have to look everytime.

CupertinoRedEvoVIII
03-24-2008, 04:15 PM
so you guys think V1 is the good buy or should I look for something else

Segfault

V1 is definitely a great buy and you won't regret it. You got radar type, direction, and count. No matter what you get, just remember this is really one of those things where you get what you pay for.

I have a Escort 8500 X50 and it's worked fine for me. That and the V1 are the best radar detectors you can buy. Only downside to the X50 is that it doesn't have the arrows like the V1 to let you know where the signal is coming from so you have to be alert.

P.S. My Blue X50 is for sale btw. :)

8500 x50... Get one of your boys at Best Buy to hook you up. It's well worth it, especially for the employee price.

The 8500 and V1 are basically identical in performance, some better in some areas so it basically evens out.

its really nice to have a v1 but the bad thing about that is police normally do turn on their radar so no way for V1 to detect the police cars

Segfault
04-01-2008, 05:12 PM
Actually, most police cars leave their radar detectors on. They aren't scanning but the leakage from having them on is detected by us which is why you can detect cars that aren't scanning for people yet.

I was going through a residential neighborhood one time and my radar went off so I decided to make sure I come to a complete stop at each stop sign. I'm thinking to myself maybe my v1 is acting up cause from my understanding of radars the cop would have to be in front or behind a car to accurately gauge its speed. A reading from the side is useless. A couple of stops later I spot a CHP unit down one of the side streets parked in front of a house. He probably left his radar on because he sure as hell wasn't trying to catch any speeders parked down one of the side streets. I guess there was enough radar bouncing off the houses on the street for the V1 to pick it up 3 blocks away.

I've had it come around corners too! It really bounces all over the damn place. If only we could "see" the radar emitted from chp cars, it's ridiculous. It completely floods everything in the area.

LIDAR guns are really so much more efficient and better (except for us, who depend on the high radar emittance to slow down)
