Hi, so I'm pretty new at being an Evo owner, and just joined after meeting a fellow Evo owner at East Bay Mitsubishi. So I traded in my 2007 MazdaSpeed3 for a new Evo X and I just picked her up Sunday....so far I just call her X, lol. Original right? So I took a ride up Mt Diablo. As I was stopped taking pics a new 08 STi drove up. LOL. So at least I'm not the only performance car to have fun on that mountain. What you think of these shots? Also does anyone have any ideas on where to starting modding? I was told wait a few months, but I really want exhaust as I find the stock system way to quiet, but I don't wanna be "riced out" loud...any ideas on companies and bolts ons the X is friendly to? Anyways here are the pics:

Great photos! I say keep it stock for a while and bring it out to the track if you are into that sort of thing. Enjoy it while its stock. Then mod. Just my honest opinion.

Edit: Look up www.evolutionm.net for lots of great info if your really want to mod and want to do it right. Good luck!

Welcome and nice photos!

COBB is coming out with a great exhaust for the Evo X, ETS also has a nice one.

Custom reflashing very soon.

As far as simple, cheaper mods, a good open filter adds approx 20whp/20wtq proven on our dyno.

Damn....thanks for the warm welcoming. I didn't know the Nor Cal Evo peeps were so cool. LOL. I would do a welcome post on a Ford or Mazda site and never received more than a few welcomes. haha.

Here is my plan with the car....It's my daily driver and always will be, it will be my car when the snow is bad in the mountains and I wanna go boarding (awd and snow tires = no chains to fuck up your rims) and it's also gonna be my track car as I'm a part of NASA. For all of the reasons I wanna modd it to get more power as my Mazda was pumping out 330hp but I wanna keep the X comfortable, so that means I want to lower it but it still feel stock and no upgraded motor mounts. I know MM's eliminate engine movement but in my past 2 cars although I was fine with it at fist after 7 months with a car it got annoying.

So I was think ETS SRI and ETS Exhaust are my first 2 mods as they are simple and should make the car sound nice. Plus I hear good things about them and those 2 kits look clean compared to other kits I've seen. However does the SRI by ETS yield better gains than the works drop in air filter? If they are the same I'd go with works as I like the stock look but if th SRI creates more power I'll get that.

Also I'm on evom.net and I'm confused like none other. I guess I gotta get use to the Evo boards as I've been on the Mazda boards for so long.

welcome! always good to see another gg member.

as far as mods keeping it simple and practical

i would just go exhaust, intake, and a reflash. the car is fairly new and things are just rolling off the assembly line now.er said.

going w/ more agressive cams when they come out is not a bad idea either (when some are made available)

BUt like some of the other members said, "enjoy it stock for a bit" this way the companies can work out the kinks on some of the product and you can research reviews on said product.

congratz, and enjoy!

I would get the drop in filter over the short ram intake. Â*The drop in filter will get you a lot less grief from the police. Â*Unless you like being a guinea pig, then I would wait for others to test those parts for you.

HELL NO!!! I went to DVC and well didn't like it so I went straight to work and now I work at East Bay Mitusbishi....and today my clutch went out....sorta sounds like it's dragging bc around 5k rpm there is a high pitched metal scraping squeal/whine. Am I correct that my clutch is shot? LOL

What are the symptoms? You are just cruising and around 5K it starts to make the noise? Have you pressed the clutch in when it makes the noise to see if it goes away?

When in neutral and revving it makes the sound really bad. In gear it doesn't sound weird at all.

No I don't think so. This is new....started today I think. I just noticed it when someone asked to hear the engine. And OMG it was embarrassing. I talked to IlovemyevoIX, he thinks it could be the throw out bearing. I think I just toasted the clutch....after a hard run, which i accidentally rode the clutch too much on a hard launch it was smoking. So it's toast I'm sure.

Ya I hope. LOL. But also I work at East Bay Mitsubishi so it shouldn't be an issue. If it is...well that's fucked. Haha. But this is disappointing. And today will be the last day I ever drive hard on this car. I'll do track days but that is about it. Not gonna try to launch ever again.

04-13-2008, 11:15 PM
launching on a new car huh.... it really doesn't sound like you burnt up the clutch after one dump. i mean, the clutch HAS to be able to withstand one bad launch. then again, i don't know how you drive your car so... yeah.

anyways, nice car and good luck.

Welcome to the familia!

If you are looking for an upgraded clutch kit, we offer the WORKS CK2 and the Spin Aluminum flywheel for the EVO X.
When broken-in properly, it will engage much better and last longer than stock.Â*

Honestly I have no idea what just happened to the car today. Start the car, slight smell of burning but no noise. Put a hundred miles on the odometer today and the noise is gone and the smell to. What the hell happened?

Also got the flash done at Concord Mitsu today. They have the most awesome service guys!!! I hear they got like 9 X's scheduled for the weekend or something. But mine was done in about 40minuts (10min delay bc another car was on the computer) so I talked it up with a service guy and sales guy. Also this was just a walk in. I called up, headed out 25mins later and dropped of the car.

So now it feels and sounds normal and stronger. Any one have any idea what happened?
