Very good read. Looks like despite negative rumors, the X MR can more then handle itself with bolt-ons+tune.Â* 8)

From AMS via EvoM:

Â* Â* Â*As many of your know Some of our guys made the trip to the long beach Grand prix this week for a super lap battle with our TA1 time attack car. Specifically the president and head engineer of AMS Martin Musial and shop foreman and head engine builder Tim Salefski.

Aside from Long beach Grand Prix event one of our friends over at Mitsubishi in Cyprus asked to come by and to toss our new EVO X product line on the New Evolution X MR. We Grabbed some of our prototype units and tossed them in the trailer for the trip. After installing the goodies they then gave Tim and Martin the car to Drive around while in town for the race.

After much deliberation and some Arm Twisting Martin and Tim succumbed to Mitsubishi’s request and have been driving around an AMS equipped Evo X MR….are you kidding me they were laying rubber before the Mitsubishi rep finished the question. So far they LOVE IT. On top of the added power from the AMS parts they simply LOVE the MR transmission. It has a few different settings and to put it most simply it is just like driving a manual transmission car. There is even the ability to have it electronically down shift for you! Tim has been using expletives like “Bad Ass” and “awesome” over and over again so I think it’s safe to say all you future MR owners out there are going to be in good hands.

Here are some pictures of the facility and the cars in cyprus. Later Rich will post up some pics of our parts installed on the car. It’s a breath of fresh air seeing Mitsubishi working with a well known tuner on the EVO X. I think this is going to turn into something great for all current and future EVO owners.

getrag, mitsubishi and the 3000gt has some bad-mojo
between the transfer-case seals & the oem-factory spec fluid, coupled with the whole replacement unit stuff for the longest time, atop of the fact most transmissions didn't seem to last the 60-100k mile mark
(see Evo X tech videos on YouTube, the SST is going to be a whole-replacement-unit aswell)

PS. 450 Nm = 332 ft lbs
470 Nm = 346 ft lbs

Hmmm, where is this dealership?? Cyprus Mitsu?? The GSR in the dealers at norcal (Concord, El Cerrito, Fairfield) seem to have only stock equipment. Not AMS stuff.

Update from AMS:

We're on the road back from California! Just a quick check in from the road and to drop some more info. The parts we installed on the MR make about another 50-60 crank horsepower on a GSR. Look at the step by step dyno tests that we posted on the GSR and from the seat of the pants feel the MR is responding just the same. The car feels fast, and it helps that the turbo is on full boost during shifts!

I got a chance to drive the new Lexus ISF wtih 416hp and it's 5.0L V8 on this trip and i don't think it was much faster if not the same as the pumped up MR. Even though I'm a die hard stick shift fan I'm impressed with the DCSST transmission. In Normal mode, it drives and shifts very civil, very similiar shift logic to a regular automatic transmission. The one major difference is that there is no torque converter slip and a standing start feels like some ghost force is activating a clutch for you. Put it in Sport mode and the shifts hold out a bit longer, quicken up, and it rev-matches during the automatic downshifts. You can always take over shifting duties by putting the selector in the manual gate and clicking it forward and back, or use the paddle shifters. You can put it in 6th gear at 1500rpm and lug away at 1500rpm if you wish.

Hold the brake down and push the SST shift mode selector mode up for a few seconds you'll be in Super Sport mode. If left to shift on it's own the revs always stay above 4500rpm and the shift happen VERY fast. I'm not positive but I think they take 200 milliseconds. Of course you can stay in manual mode with the paddle shifters and do all the work yourself to keep the revs down but stay with the ultra quick shift points. I really like how it rev matches the downshifts for you, very cool!

That's about it for now, time to hit the road again and we'll have more news when we get home. Thanks!

Yeeaa......those are Lancer Ralliarts, not Evo X's. And those are the same wheels that are on the current Lancer GTS that has been out, waaay before the GTR, so if anything the GTR wheels are knockoffs.

And why wouldn't you be able to change the wheels?

SpeedElement

i don't see how they are anywhere similar (ralliart wheels vs. GTR wheels).

HAHAHA!! Well, I guess it really depends on the direction you wanna take, they're so opposite. :?

You already have 3 beasts, what's another? Or maybe a gas saver is a good idea? I say sell 1 Evo and replace it with the X MR, and get the Prius for your daily needs.

More pics added. I'm trying to find out what the whp/wtq is on this MR to gauge what I can do to mine, but they take forever to respond.
