View Full Version : NorCalEvo.net Meet #2 - Feb 8th, 2004 (NorCalEvo / SoCalEvo)

coolguy949
01-28-2004, 11:30 AM
The plans are set for meet #8. It will be a joint SoCalEvo and NorCalEvo meet at Thunder Hill Raceway Park, north of Sacramento, CA.

This is also our first SoCalEvo.net/NorCalEvo.net track day (one out of 4 or 5 this year) provided by SpeedVentures.net (http://www.speedventures.net). As a SoCalEvo / NorCalEvo member you get special discount and perks other people wont get that track day (explained below). From my knowledge we will have our own run group for SoCalEvo / NorCalEvo, but there will be other cars there too at the track day.

What SoCalEvo and NorCalEvo members get that others don't:[list]
- $40 off the track day event (regular price $190, our price $150). Members who also want to go on Saturday the 7th will pay $260 instead of $300.
- Free timing ($40 value)
- Free shirts with SoCalEvo, NorCalEvo, Mitsu, and Evolution logos and artwork.
- Trophies to those who have the best times[/list:u]

Event Info:

Duration: 4+ hours of track time per group!*

Track: Thunderhill Raceway Park (North of Sacramento, CA)

Registration: You must register for the event using the SpeedVentures.net registration system (https://www.speedventures.net/event_select.asp)! Just make sure you put down that you drive an Evo and you will automatically get the SoCalEvo / NorCalEvo discount! Your credit card will be billed with the correct discount even though it says the full price on the SpeedVentures site.

Timing: Transponders will be free for SoCalEvo / NorCalEvo members.

Track Info: Considered by some to be the best track in California, Thunderhill is a newer 3 mile track in the hills north of Sacramento with many exciting features: elevation changes, off camber turns, very long straights, high-speed doglegs and blind corners. We will be running the full Thunderhill track with the Cyclone in the counter-clockwise direction on Saturday (the usual direction), and counter-clockwise direction without the Cyclone on Sunday.

For a turn-by-turn introduction to this awesome track, check out Thunderhill's Website (http://www.thunderhill.com/tracklap.html).

http://www.speedventures.net/graphics/thill.gif

*Note - Due to Thunderhill's hours of operation, we can not start this event at 8am as our usual schedule would allow; hence the < 5 hours of track time. Details of this event are subject to change.

UPDATE: If you have friends with NON-Evos, they will get $35 off the $190. YOu will need to tell speedventures who your friend is on the list, or just let me know.

Also, for those wondering. The SoCalEvo / NorCalEvo discount does not include a free instructor ride-along.

Is everyone going up there the night before? Or is there an early morn caravan..... I,m thinking I might go snag a room the night before, less of an early morning wake up.

Speak high on "AmeriHost Inn and Suites - Willows", and if you get enough people you might get a group discount as well.

Last time I went with another car club and they manage to get a group deal - $70 for a 2-bed room with free breakfast.

awesome meet guys! im glad i made the drive up. good meeting everybody and putting faces with names.

to the WORKS guys, Pete, Tom and Rif (sp?), thanx for the ride :D man, i had one helluva time on the track. my first time ever, too. i appreciate you guys working out that "bug" involving the "low gas" and "service engine lite..." you guys have the best customer service. dont mean to be a paranoid freak, but im glad you guys were still there to explain to me the problem. ill remember to fill up next time i enter the track. moral of the story? dont boost with no gas!!! haha

so yea, overall, i had a great time. look forward to chilling with you guys again.

JanSolo

I don't think being stock matters much. ;)

I drove in the stage 4 Buschur with Robbie (I believe that is how you spell his name) and we got a 2.8 around the track (as in 2 minutes, 8 seconds). Crazy.

Without me in the his Evo, he got a 2.3.

The best time I heard that an Evo got was a 2.2 - on a completely stock Evo. All of which goes to prove it's all driver.

BTW, that was the best track event I've been to yet. The Evos were tearing it up and the stage 4 Buschur was outshining the C5 Z06's (even the modded ones) with no effort. Straight lines were no problem for it - Robbie would just floor it and it would be at turn 1 at 130+ mph. I would look in the rear view and see the Z06s starting to get smaller and smaller. INSANE. Too bad his Evo could not be in the SCC shootout. I am sure it would have done decently.

Oh and I met a bunch of SoCalEvo guys and a few more NorCalEvo guys. Nice hanging with you Thomas and Ystejam. See you both on the 28th!

No problem, Thomas. I wanted to make sure you got a run on the track and the Works guys know what they are doing when it comes to track driving.

after you and some other evos left, i let Tom from WORKS take my car (with me in the passenger seat :D ) onto the track. oh my gosh! it was the best experience in my evo to date! including women. he drove my ride to the ground, and squealed my tires like they have never squealed before...all four of them! they were howling! and it was all controlled. it was soooo much fun. damn, i need to learn how to drive like that.

oh yea, i was on stock suspension. did it matter? no. haha. homeboy can drive...

!Jan - so I guess my custom reflash on race fuel for robi we did in LA two weeks ago is working alright then eh?

BTW - I was too scared to let robi drive me around - I am too old and nervous for that - I prefer to drive myself - although not as fast as robi who is hard core !

Yesterday was a heck a of a lot of fun--it was great too finally meet some names and faces from SoCalEvo. Thanks Rob for organizing this!

I took about 150 photos this weekend; I culled out the really worthless ones (when you try to photograph an Evo speeding by at 100mph on a straight, with a digital camera with a 1+ second shutter lag, you get quite a few pictures of nothing ) and posted up the rest in my gallery: http://www.norcalevo.net/forums/modules.php?set_albumName=album35&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php

I rode with ogvw on his silver evo, he was consistantly pulling 2:17-18 laps, that's pretty fast on street tires. Btw, ogvw, thanks for the ride.

Also, rode with on the pretty much stock yellow z06, with street tires... he was pulling 2:07-8 laps very consistantly.

As for myself, i was running 2:23-24 with best laptime 2:20. With the exception of the 1st session, I was getting a lot of vibration on the brakes. so i guess it's time for ferodo. Also, it's time to soften up the suspension.

Then why did the guy driving the Ultima (4 seconds slower than the Buschur/RRE rocket) bitch me out for "rocking" his car??? (John @ RRE liked the story so much he gave me a new set of Spark plugs for the abuse I took ;-)..)

What he did he mean by rocking his car? Did he mean passing it up and kicking it's ass?

I was dropping my inside front tire of the tarmack (rally speak) on the inside of three and six and he didn't like the stones my spinning tire was throwing on/at his pretty racer :-0

It was super cool when I was following ob4 and everytime we would downshift for a slower corner his car would belch a nice flame out of the exhaust!

In hindsight I should have taken the camera mount from my car and mounted my DV camcorder in a car that was running. Ah well, there's next time I guess. Though I did lend my camera mount to someone and they did get video off it, so hopefully we'll be seeing that posted up soon...

Anyone can upload a video to their section in the gallery.
The tricky bit is that direct uploads from your computer are limited to 200KB. However if you choose the "upload photos" option you can enter a URL for it to pull file(s) from, and there's no restriction on size (as far as I can tell) in such cases. So what you have to do is upload the movie to another site first, then point the gallery software at the URL where you uploaded the movie. Kinda awkward I agree... :?

Um, no, you can upload pretty much anything you want. Of course if you upload your car porn in some stupid format like QuickTime, some of us won't be able to view it. :P

That's just because you hate Quicktime. Hence why there is Quicktime Alternative (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm).
