I'm so stoked! Finally, Mitsubishi finished 3rd (on podium) and 7th on The Rally Monte Carlo. The first ever race of the season. All the tremendous efforts of the R&D on the car, it's payback time. Panizzi drove the WRC Lancer into 3rd place.

You guys can't imagine how happy I'am. Mitsubishi has showed the true passion in rally racing and they will prevail. The Mitsubishi Evo Montero has won the rally of Dakar for the 5th consecutive time and I can't wait to see the races in SpeedTV.

subaru in 14th place

Former World Rally Champion Petter Solberg was not so lucky. The Norwegian went off the road in the same stage, damaging the front left wheel and forcing him into retirement.

I see news travels slowly. :)

It'll be interesting to see if Mitsubishi can get a podium without half the drivers in front of Panizzi retiring from the rally.

"Damaging." He hit a stone wall and just about ripped the wheel right off the car. Oops!

oh yah.. they will. Just by looking at the time difference between Solberg and Panizzi on Leg 2... umm yah! 8) Leg 1 where Panizzi had a few bugs. Auto to manual to auto shifts.. e-brake. C'mon tam, be optimistic.

We'll see... Solberg has always struggled on tarmac, and tarmac is where Panizzi excels.

RallyPlanet has Solberg's crash video (registration on the RallyPlanet forums may be needed): http://media.rallyplanet.com/video/solberg_crash_mc05.wmv

EDIT: not the crash where Solberg retired though. Looks like amateur video. Kinda scary because it almost looks like Solberg drove right into the cameraman; I think it's just them diving out of the way though.

Tarmac is not Solberg's strong point, i'm excited to see who takes the win this season :)

Hopefully things won't go too far down hill, even if several cars infront of them don't have problems/accidents like they did here. As the season progresses the car will too, afterall the car didn't even have active diffs. and most likely won't until the 3rd round in Mexico ( http://www.wrc.com/page/BreakingNewsDetail/0,,10111~619046,00.html
