From http://www.rally-america.com/ :

Burke had been chasing Richard for the lead since the start, but his effort ended in a heartbreaking crash just yards from the finish of a challenging 25-mile stage on Saturday.

A crash was not unexpected on the long and technical Stage 9. Speeds topped 100 miles per hour at some points as cars rocketed through the straight-aways and into tight turns on ice and snow.

Burke was fighting to recover from a 33.8-second deficit after Friday's stages when he lost control on the final turn -- a tight right-hander over a crest. His car tagged the finish control board before bouncing off a tree and back onto the road.

"Everybody's fine," said a shaken Burke after he returned to the mid-morning service stop on Saturday, a smear of blood on his cheek and a bandage over a cut on his chin. "We got out just fine."

He and co-driver Jason Gillespie escaped serious injury and were cleared by the Rally America medical team shortly after the crash.

But Burke's Open Class Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII suffered heavy damage to the front-right side. The force of the hit pushed the engine into the firewall and jammed the co-driver's-side door over the frame.
I remember he DNF'ed at Rim of the World last year when he nose-planted the Evo on a big jump in the SSS. And if I'm not mistaken he DNF'ed the 2-3 previous rallies too. He finished the year driving a Hyundai Tiburon. With the Evo looking like that I guess that's where he's headed again. :?
