Wanted to get some opinions on which camera I should look into buying
Priorities for me are,
small size
point and shoot
fast picture to picture times
must have image stabilization.
and of course picture quality.

D40 should do the trick. My first SLR camera and I am still getting used to it. Not bad for the $$ either. Thanks Jay ;)

I have a SD300 and it works fine. The new SD1100 has Image Stabilization.

I like to spend time comparing different models to see what the image quality looks like. Dpreview (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs.asp) is a good source to get camera model numbers and reviews. With the model numbers from their camera database you can see any digital camera ever made. They actually have sample images from my first Digital Camaera which is a Canon Powershot A20 (http://www.dpreview.com/gallery/canona20_samples/) from 2001  When you get a model number you can enter it in a google image search (http://images.google.com/images?imgsz=huge&gbv=2&hl=en&q=Nikon+D700) or flickr (http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=Nikon+D700) to check out the image quality. Enjoy and good luck selecting a point and shoot. There are so many good one's out there now. I'm a Nikon guy but the Canon G9 and G10 have me drooling! I guess I could always get it for my wife :P

Update: I bought a Canon SD850 about 2 months ago from costco. A pretty good deal for $250, and it came with a inkjet printer as well. After owning it for about 2 months, I notice there's alot of time where the camera just goes completely out of focus. The face detection is cool, it tracks faces before you even touch the button, and image stabilization seems to work well. Just that sometimes the focus goes completely out. I've since seen a few of my other friends with the same camera and they don't have the focus problems I do. I'm returning the SD850 back to costco and replacing it with a SD890, newer model. So far, it doesn't have the focus problem yet.
