Automatic evo FOR THE MUTHA FVCKING LOSS.

Depends on what you want to do with it. Stock for stock, I'd bet an X MR would lap quicker than a IX.

i found it funny that the fq went thru each turn straight on, while the sti countered every turn it hit :) that was a clean drift-pass he pulled in the end with the sti though :)

with a 300ft-lb limit on the sst the average joe will never be able to have a hardcore X. Kinda like the viii and ix MR except a whole bunch more pricey and it won't be worth the $$$ to convert to a 5sp like it is in the 8&9...

I'm sticking with MR FTL in all models.

D7 needs more track experience. :P

I would rather see someone of skill drive their car (with similar numbers for good measure) around the track, then right after, drive mine and compare times, I dunno.

I do want to go for 1/4 times though.

Evo X MR beat a Evo IX around the track C bass??? C'mon you're smarter than that. Give it time? For what? Maybe some cool flash will come out for optimization but as for track cars ct9a ftw

With as advanced as the X MR's tranny is, I would bet a good amount of money that stock for stock it would take a IX. No problem. Until you drive one, you can't expect yourself to invest any confidence in it, I get that.

Give it time? For what?

Wait for clutch packs. Wait for someone to try cams. Wait for a Turbo upgrade.

I actually did get a chance to drive a X MR, *with regular seats :P my fatass wont fit in yours. And I was impressed, it is an awesome daily driver. But have you ever tracked your car? Have you ever tracked your VIII? Conveniently I even took my buddy's X MR through turns and it was nice. But after tracking my stock evo awhile back, I still have a doubt the X MR could overtake it. Who knows as far as I know no one has tracked their X MR on this side of the coast yet.

"Wait for clutch packs. Wait for someone to try cams. Wait for a Turbo upgrade."

I thought you said stock for stock? ;)

DirectorSe7en
08-13-2008, 01:07 PM
Yes, stock for stock on the track. I said "wait for this and that" to Steve meaning the X MR can be worth more power in time. It's only been out for 2 months how can we say what kind of power it's capable of?

My confidence in the X MR is the sophistication in the drivetrain and tranny over the IX. I believe that all that makes for a big difference. It stops quicker than a IX, accelerates just as fast and can take turns at a faster speed according to a few tests.

Of course there's alot of r&d for the x mr. I'm excited to see what they'll come out. But your faith is in a totally different tranny. The IX did not come with a slushbox, it came with a well built 5-speed manual transmission which I've seen handle close to 450wtq+ So, there's no comparison there. Your tranny may be cooler in the city, but in reality will get alot of thumbs down to hardcore enthusiasts at the track. Some will like it, a few will love it, most will hate it. Reality.

Even if they make a high hp X MR with crazy tranny mods, most people would still stick with a high hp CT9a with a clutch

I don't doubt the cars capabilities at all. BUT give me $40k and a viii and give me $40k and a X and I bet the viii is faster, more reliable, and doesn't cost as much to maintain.

MR=fancy commuter package imo

Is it sacrilege to admit I prefer the STi over the X. It just seems like the new STi is more "Evo" than the Evo X.

So when is this track day BTW? I need to get out there. My VIII has been sitting in the garage collecting dust since I bought the Lesbaru wagon for a DD. Time to see what it can do.

How so?

dabaysevo

The evo has always been known for being the less tech driven of the two. Now it's all electronics and stuff.

Steiner
08-13-2008, 10:26 PM
It's seems more raw, more tossable and more tunable to me. My seat time is very limited in both but the STi definitely felt more like my VIII than the X. It's hard to explain. It's just something I felt.

steevo8
08-13-2008, 10:33 PM
I have mixed feeling about both but I do know one thing.. The STI is a much better street car imo. Better layout, better utility, better comfort, better build quality, better manufacture support. Although it may not be everyones cup of tea, I really can not see how you could fault anyone for buying one... I think they look pretty sick full track prepped as well.

All it takes is some red vinyl overlays and the ugly taillights are gone! Im really considering a new sti theyre awesome! Definitely more junkyard dog status than the X. The X is......I think, trying TOO hard.

D7,

The only way to get to the track ... is by going.

Its intimidating to think about it when you ve never been, but go once and you ll love it. Just go out in novice with an instructer and enjoy yourself safely. There are plenty of evo instructers out there as well.

You owe it to yourself to get out there.. and you get to shut everyone else up too.

Kinda makes you wonder what the manufacturers fascination with the clear tail lights is, when "normal" tails look 100x better. Mitsu did this with the VIII and now Subaru with the new STI...ughh. Someone needs to slap some product designers around...
