i still have some leftover. they are 2" wide thermo wrap, it should be sufficient to wrap the downpipe. let me know if you are interested.

well lets see my temp decreased by -6 and i really dont have any rattling issues but it made the cockpit off my car 10 times quiter. i have helix with no cat so its loud as hell but when i wrapped the downpipe and cat delete wow it went from evo to cadillac. well not that good but you get the point. if you havent looked lately, when you put a 3 inch downpipe on a evo man it sure is close to the oil pan so how much heat do you think transfers from the downpipe to the pan. im gonna guess but im sure its alot more than it did befor you changed the downpipe so does thermo wrap work YES and would i recomend it YES.

thanks for the explaination :)
i guess i'm lucky i have the hks downpipe, clears everything quite nicely. but i like the idea of making the system more quiet as a whole.

Heat is the enemy.

This is why we offer ceramic coating for our downpipes :)

My experience with thermal wrap is it sticks for about 2 weeks, then the adhesive hardens and it all starts to come apart.

Ive seen guys use safety wire wrapped over the material as a supplement to keep this from happening... :?:

.....I like the idea of noise reduction

McMaster-Carr (http://www.mcmaster.com/) has something called "High-Temperature Pipe and Tube Wrap" (part #9379K93) available in 3"x12' lengths for $12.12 but the stuff is half an inch thick (though it's probably compressible).

- Temperature Range: -50° to +2300° F
- Heat Flow Rate: 0.25 Btu/hr. x in./sq. ft. @ 75° F

This durable wrap not only withstands extreme heat, it also has excellent sound absorption and resists tears. Made of white alumina-silica based ceramic fibers with an aluminum jacket, it's unaffected by hydrocarbons and water and resists most chemicals. Use this UV-resistant material indoors and out. Install with banding (see 7760K on this page).
