Uh, painting it is going to reduce its ability to dissipate heat, since the paint acts as an insulator. And paint can clog up some of the holes, blocking airflow through the intercooler. I don't mind bling if it doesn't affect performance but I think you've done yourself a disservice with this one. :(

I think I'm going to have to agree with vtluu on this one. Besides, why would you want to black out your intercooler???? As for step 6, I dont think a Lancer Evolution 8 could ever really be a sleeper, maybe an RS..... I dunno.

man guys if the guy wants to paint his intercooler its his choice and you guys should keep your comments to yourself.. it looks fine and i dont think it matters as much about it being an insulator i will still get cool and if not he always has his sprayer...

I'll have to go with the advise from an expert here. If Mike W from ROADRACE///ENGINEERING says it's ok, I believe him.

Quoted from SoCalEvo----

Is there a reason that the FMIC can't be painted black? I know black absorbs heat. I know intercoolers are designed to cool the air flowing through it. My question is would there be a significant difference in temperature if the FMIC was painted black? Radiators are painted black. It would seem to me that the color would have no baring at night with no sun to heat it up. Has anyone done this?

On my Mirage I just hit the face of the intercooler with a light coat of semi gloss spray paint. Only the face gets painted and that isnt going to effect the heat transfer at all. The heat transfer takes place through the whole thing, not just the face. One day it might show a few little chips in the paint, I'll spray a little more in those spots if necessary.

The internet tells me that is bad to paint an intercooler, but I got over it real quick. I prefer the stealth factor. The whole point of a 400 hp 89 Mirage... right?

If you want to spend a lot more money you would get it anodized. The internet wouldnt make fun of you for having paint on it that way.
