Currently on Falken Azenis Sport RT215 245/45-17s; will probably go with stock-sized Kumho Ecsta MXs next which is still very sticky and should be better-behaved in heavy rain. I'm tempted to try the Toyo Proxes T1s though since they're priced almost the same.

Discount Tire Direct has these for $118 in 245/45-17 (unfortunately, not available in OEM size); has anybody here have any experience with them, or heard anything about them?

i Bought the Falken Azenis st115. I am happy with them. I don't race with the evo or track at all. But I am happy. I do miss my OEM tires though :D

If I had to spend less than $100 per corner, my inclination would be to go with the Sumitomo HTR-Z IIs. Even though I now have separate race tires, I'm still pretty demanding of my daily driver tires.

No offense to Marcel (or anybody else) but I consider the ST-115s second-rate tires (grip-wise)--at least for that price. But then again maybe your choices are more limited with 18" or 19" wheels. If you get them shaved, then the compound lower down on the tread blocks is the same as with the RT-215s--much stickier--but then you'll be effectively paying twice as much for the tire. To be fair, you'll always trade grip for tread life (otherwise I'd be driving around on RA-1s ;))... but I think grippier tires that last as long can be found for the same or lower prices.

I ran azenis sport and they are noisy, I had s02, s03 and they were expensive.

I wanted to run the st115 since it is rather cheap and from all the research I did, they are quite.. I need that right now.. and I'll be running 18's. Besides, my wife will be driving the evo.. I'll get an XB!!!! wooottt!!!! :peace:

They're only noisy until they make you go deaf. ;) You're right though, they are extremely noisy when worn down. I solved the problem by buying an even noisier race car--now the Evo doesn't seem so bad.

17" sizes available--245/45-17 and 255/40-17. A bit pricier than the RT215s at $147 a tire. 18" sizes later this year...

They're supposed to be stiffer, lighter and more rain-friendly than the RT-215s. Don't know about noise or tread wear, I wouldn't expect them to be better.

Grip, or long tread life--choose one.

more of grip + noise or Long life + less noise

if it has grip with less noise than the rt.. then we can talk..

Hey y'all,

The New Hankooks being discussed are the spec tires used in the 2005 USTCC sponsored by NASA....if you are gonna race your EVO this season, you might want to get used to this tire.

Similar to the Toyo RA-1's that were used in '03-'04.

those hankooks you posted.. they arent the new R compound right? I inquired about their new R compound and i was told these grip better then the RA1s but will not last nearly as long... not recommended for street use.

ok the z211 is the R compound being used in SCCA. the Z212 is based on this tire but would be more of a street tire. Im intrested to see how good these are. With all the positive feedback on the z211, i would expect the slight toned down version to offer some pretty decent performance! I wonder how stick these are though.
