Looking to get the GF a good photo printer for xmas, what do you guys recommend in the $200-400 range.

I don't really know anything about photo printers but i do know there are the ink jet type and the dye-sub type or something. Any thoughts about those?

Don't need the super all-in-one printer, just want something that will print nice crisp clear vibrant color photos.

Thanks.

any photo printer should do if shes printing reg size photos.

i use a cheapo "free from $50 rebate' photo printer at home. it works well.

just look for the DPI

What about the differences between inkjet vs dye-sub? I heard something about one type will fade over time but the other won't...can't remember which one was which.

At one time I owned the Epson R1800, but I didn't use it much so I sold it. I'd look into the Epson R1400, its $179.99 after rebates..

Epson ftw, I've used them for 8 years now. Great printers for photos

We currently have the Epson Photo 1400 and it rocks.

That $179 price linked above is a killer price! We payed $300 earlier this year.

Keep in mind inkjet inks cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
