Whats good everyone. I'm pretty new at shooting, so any critiques are welcome. Not all these shots were really set up well, some were just ones that I happen to like. So yeah, lemme know what you think. Shots were taken with my D50 and either my 18-70mm kit lens or my 50mm f1.8

Nice pics man i'm no expert but what's up with some of the pics with the people in them is it the lighting that's throwing things off?

Anyway my favorite was the waterfall as well 8)

Ok So I will be honest here.
1) Meh...not point to the shot
2)I'm not a fan of "The lineup.."
3)I see you learned the water trick..would be better with the branch out of the way.
4)see #1
5)see#1
6)Sky is no so hot.
7)Good group shot, not a line up. But it is leaning to the right a bit.
8)fun shot, little less angle to the bridge would In my view be better.
9)
10,11)For shots like this make the flower take up the whole frame.
12)Leaning to the right.
13)Good, but crop off the dead space in the top of the photo..just have the stones.
14)
15)Cute. Lighting is a little harsh on the face..but not bad.

Looks like you were having fun though and thats the key thing. go out and enjoy!

Hey man if your still new your doing really well with a lot of things already. With that camera your just barely scratching the surface. couple things you could do better though.

If your shooting in auto modes, STOP. For group shots like #5 your gonna want to shoot with like a f/10-f/11(or at least thats the depth I like for such occasions) instead of the f/4 your at now. Also for many of the shots you could turn your iso back down to 100-200 instead of 400. As for PP, make sure your shooting RAW and read up on the rule of thirds. A lot of what you have is really useful with just a minor crop and some adjustments.

Rule of thirds is a good thing;)

Jay, thanks for the criticism. I see what you are saying with the tilting.

Stevo, I haven't had the camera for long, and rarely get to go out shooting. I need to go out shooting with some people with experience to accelerate my learning.

#5, I agree for the most part with what you are saying. I should have tried to get everyone in focus. But at the same time, I also kinda liked the effect the depth of field I chose to capture.

I had to have the ISO up to 400 on some of the shots due to the lack of light, typical overcast day in SF. Everything was shot freehand, if I had my tripod I could have set the ISO lower probably.

As for the rule of thirds, yeh, I need to pay more attention to that. I need to remember to use that oh so convenient tool...CROP...haha
