Got my Quaife today, it does have a gash/deep scratch around it, almost continuous. I don't think it will hurt the diff though. What do you guys think?

Hoping to have WORKS install this soon.

Hey Bryan,

That is the electron beam weld that MikeW@RRE was talking about. They all have that line.

Since the diff is so small and compact, they way they normaly build them to bolt together wont work. There isnt enough room for the bolts and a place to thread them in to hold the diff together. This means they have to electron beam weld them together.

I'm in the middle of installing mine right now. I should be done w/ the install later today or tomorrow. I'll post up some pics and a review afterwards.

Hey Mark,

Did you get the extra set of seals yet?

Hey Mark,

Did you get the extra set of seals yet?

Mine came with 2 o-rings. After taking everything apart, it doesn't appear that any of the seals or o-rings need to be replacing if you're careful. I'm going to swap the 2 o-rings that came with my diff since I have them already. But they really don't need replacing.

Yeah, Mike and Toby at RRE said that you won't need the other seals unless someone is not being careful. They should be shipping the extra seals out soon, if you have ordered them.

Thanks for the info on the weld on the diff Mark! Makes me feel much better :D Seemed a bit too uniform and straight for a scratch, so it did make me wonder.

Yeah, time for some track time Percy, and I will post my impressions once I get it installed David...........sounds like Mark will have his done very soon 8) Once I get it installed Marcel, you can try it out anytime.

Okay, I finally finished up installing my quaife. Overall, the install wasn't too difficult. I just took my time and had to buy some tools to get it done. I probably could have gotten everything done in one day if I had all the tools.

My overall impression, THIS THING ROCKS! The front wheels actually feel like they do something now when I get on the gas through turns. Instead of understeering if I get on the gas too early, the front wheels now grip the road and pull the car through the turn.

Congratulations!

So is this 1-way LSD? Because some people think it might affect ABS if it's 1.5-way or 2-way. (I don't think yours will affect ABS, though. :) )

And how about the decel noise now? Any better? I guess Dr.EVO said that our notorious but "normal" decel noise is because of the front diff design. Now you have a LSD instead of the stock open front diff. I hope you have less noise with better front traction!

Thanks for the write up!

Yeah, it's a 1-way LSD.

The quiafe diffs are not available in any configuration except 1 way. The terms 1.5, and 2 way are only to be applied to clutch style diffs such as the ones availble from CUSCO. The way that a quaife works is to bind up internally under load, that is it. That is also why they are so well loved in auto-x, becasue they allow very tight turns while coasting in addition to being a fully locked design under load.

For more information goto --> http://www.quaifeamerica.com/differentials/diffs.htm

I don't really notice any difference in decel noise. It seems the same as before. My car is pretty noisy to begin with my exhaust and advans. ;)

I think I actually felt some OVERsteer in my EVO for the first time. I mashed the throttle entering a turn in 2nd gear to see what would happen and the tail kicked out a little! It kinda caught me off guard, but was cool/scary at the same time. I don't really think I should be testing the limits of my EVO on public roads! I plan to bring my EVO out to an auto-x one of these weekends to really test this thing.

Congrats Mark! I freaking love the front LSD in my MR. Espically noticable at the track. The quaife should be even better!

I have to really enter a corner hot to get the car to push.

Time for you to bring your car to the track! :)

I'll eventually bring my car to the track. I'll do a few auto-x's first to get my feet wet. I'm sure I'll crave more speed after a while. ;)

Just got the Quaife installed on my car, and it feels much better. like Mark said, it now feels like the front wheels are actually helping you through the turn. I wasn't sure if I would be able to tell a difference, but I can.

Big Thanks to Chris at WORKS for the awesome job on the install and Pete and Tyler for helping!!!! Also got the Ride Springs installed, and they feel really good too. 8) These springs are a great alternative to coilovers. The drop is perfect for my taste too.

It's not all good news as being an idiot i forgot about the concrete stop in the parking lot while delivering my old coilovers to Mark, and rolled over it slow........luckily I only damaged the undertray a little bit, which I have already fixed, and scratch/dinged the cat shield. Hopefully there is no other damage. I will have to get my wheels balanced to make sure they didn't get bent. :bandhead:

I also need new tires.

But the Quaife Diff and Ride Springs rock

Glad you like the diff Bryan. It literally turns our cars into a whole nother beast!

Thanks for dropping off the coilovers too. Hearing you roll over those concrete blocks hurt! I'm pretty sure your wheels didn't get damaged though. Our advans have a super stiff sidewall, and it would take a LOT of speed in order to generate an impact strong enough to damage the wheel.
