So my remote finally came in and I started playing with some super long exposures. Pretty crazy colors and stuff come out when you get past a couple minutes. This shot was 461sec at f/18.2, ISO 100. Theres nothing fancy done post process either. Just tour standard stuff when you open a raw file and some sharpening after down sizing. I cant wait for some clear skys to take some hour long exposures now.

you should take long exposures of the stars moving.

yeah I really want to. I just need it to clear up some. My friend took a 25min shot the other night at the coast and there was already a lot of movement in them. Should be fun.

holds the shutter open for an extended amount of time.

well with my camera at least. when you push the shutte down it takes a pic for a pre set amount of time and 30sec being the longest it can be set for. Theres a setting though that will allow you to hold the shutter open as long as your holding the button down. Obviously you couldnt do this by holding the camera in your hand, so you stick it on a tripod and use the remote since it can be locked open with the remote. You then use the aperture and iso to meter the amount of light you want depending on how long you plan to expose it. Its pretty crazy what you can do.You can make it look like daytime when you its so dark outside you cant even see in front of you.

A remote just lets you lock up the shutter without having to actually hold the camera, it also lets you lock up the shutter for aslong as you please.

unless a whole bunch of people have stole that shot from dave, I don't think he is the one that took it. He was most likely just using it as an example. If he did take it, he really should have put a copywrite on it cause there's a shit load of people using it.

Send me your email and I can send you a high res of mine... Honestly though it's not a very great pic though. I was just posting it cause it's different..

One thing about this shot I find interesting is that when I was shooting it, it was very very foggy out. I was expecting it to just turn everything grey. I think the fog helpped though cause i was able to close it down and expose it longer. If it was clear out it would most likely have just been really over exposed at that av and I would hate to close it down more cause it's already making the bridge and background too close and blended looking.. I'll see if I have some fairly long ones at a f/10 or something. It should look a lot better.

If I was by myself I for sure wouldn't have. It wasn't very cold but it sure was dark. We walked down this road a little ways and came to this shack that's all tagged up and stuff. I wanted to shoot it but it was a bit too creepy to hang out in front of for the 15-20min it would have took to expose it. I wanna go there before sunset sometime that way I know no one is in it and then when it gets dark post up out front with a lawn chair and some beers :)

That's sick! This was with your new 40D? How do you like shooting at 6.5fps? That's the first Canon that felt at home in my hands.

Havent ever shot at 6.5fps. Maybe when I go to the track next but right now I have only done it just to see how it works..

The 40D feels awesome in my hand. Much better then the 20D did. Cant wait to get a battery grip for it...
