I think I've been bitten by the FP Red bug...after seeing the results of this turbo I'm completely convinced that I HAVE TO buy this thing.

Now, I'm figuring I'll need to change the following things during this process:

Injectors: 1000cc (currently not available, but necessary if I go to E85)
Turbo: FP Red
Fuel pump: Maybe not on a conservative tune?
Test pipe: Anything with an extra bung for a wideband
Clutch: Maybe an ACT or an Exedy twin disc
Tune: Bryan@GST for sure

Am I missing anything?

Negative ghost rider, you'll need bigger than 1000's for a Red on E85 and likely a double pumper.

P.S. You should wait a bit cause I just saw on ATP's site that Garrett is releaseing direct bolt on turbos with BB center sections for the X.

Patience yo. ;)

Well, in that case...I might just get the 800s for now...and upgrade once the 1200 injectors and a solid solution is available for the fuel pump.

I think even on 91 and a stock fuel pump I'll be able to see 400ish whp with this turbo.

I gotta strike while the iron is hot man! I won't be able to keep up with you if I wait for the Garrett. Plus the FP is probably 1/2 the price of the Garrett.

Let the limits of that turbo be shown before you spend the $$$$. Ya Know? The Red may not turn out to be the most cost effective option after a few others come out.

Remember something called a White Rabbit?

This is true...but it's kinda hard not to want to jump in considering the track record with the 8/9 FP Red. Sure this motor is turning out to be fairly strong but I'd be pretty darn happy with 400ish whp. And with their core return option, the turbo is only $1200.

Mike i read a few shops saying that Twin Disc Clutches were bad on the X tranny. I didn't hear anything from AMS who i would trust more than a lot of these other shops, just thought I'd give you the heads up.

I would wait and see what else comes out :) I own a IX but am doing e85 first before i do a turbo upgrade. I would just get tuned if I were you :)

Get the the Garrett 30R and then put an FP HTA compressor wheel put in. Best of both worlds. In the meantime, start getting the other parts put on and get cams. I want to see what those cossie cams can do on the GST dyno. Do it baller.

I honestly haven't done much research on the clutch subject. I'm about a month or two out from doing this...so hopefully by that time there will be more data on what is best.

With as much power as a bigger turbo will put out, I'm positive that it will shred the stock clutch...so I'll have to do something.

I was thinking about this too, but it seems like the stock cams are doing quite well. Ideally, my goal is 400whp on pump 91 and once I go E85 maybe 450? Seems as though the FP Red with the supporting fuel upgrades can get me there without cams. Based on early reports, it is a complete PITA to install the cams...and it's not clear that they are worth the effort.

I'd be very impressed if the FPred hits 400 on our dyno on a 10.

Boostd4,

FYI, CBRD has a couple bolt-on turbos for the X. One is stock appearing and flows approx 54lbs/min.

buschur just saw what they can do.... ;) he made 50more whp at less boost than the "other" big X turbo ;)

that's the set up that I"m gonna do. After all my "future mods" are done, it's gonna be 1000cc fuel injectors, fuel pump/filter, clutch/flywheel, Cusco LSD Rear 1.5 Sway, and FP Red... oh and tune by Chris@AMS

So Bryan, do you think this is something that is fairly streetable with a few track days thrown in? I'm also assuming with this turbo I'll need 1000s and a fuel pump?

Just do E-85 dude... with your light weight car and possibility of 375hp like Bryan... your just as fast as the X with a turbo upgrade. :)

I too need to stay away from the forms. All these great power upgrade for the Evo X. I can’t contain myself. I just purchase the FP-Red and it's coming mid this month. Well I hope, we’ll see how it do.
