I'm a complete noob when it comes to audio stuff. I just got an iTouch for xmas and wanted to change out my stock radio for something that can work w/ my itouch. What are you guys using that's pretty good? I have no clue wtf I need to make this work. lol.

Any headunit that is iPod ready or if you want to use an fm mudulator/transmitter but I find that those sound crap most of the time. You could also buy those with flip up monitor that can support video so you can watch those pron videos you have on the itouch.

Does it have bluetooth? I have a Pioneer headunit that supports Bluetooth audio streaming, with a built in mic for phone calls. I got it for $250 new and am willing to part with it since I don't really use it like I expeceted. Let me know if your interrested.

Yeah. I'm looking for something along the lines as that one where it hooks up to the ipod via a cable. :D

Check out the Alpine iDA-X100 (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500IDAX100/Alpine-iDA-X100.html?c=3&tp=5684&avf=N). The only thing I didn't like about it was it doesn't play CD's with out an external CD changer.

Ya. Thanks, but I dont need any of the phone features. It makes me feel dangerous and alive to talk on my phone while driving. I like to keep my whole car illegal, inside and out. lol

You're dangerous enough behind the wheel... you're asian. :icon_razz:

At least you don't have to worry about getting pulled over by cops because they think you stole the car cause "it's too nice for a dirty beaner like you!" :embarassed:

This thing was on Slickdeals at a clearance item sometime back.

It was for like $80-$120, it is definitely not worth the $200+

Dont really want to go over $300. So anything under that is fine. I'm expecting around the $250 range, but can spend up to $300. I found the cable for the ipod -> deck for $22 shipped on amazon.

This one looks promising, it even shows album art from the ipod and has the big center wheel like a regular iPod. Honestly any head unit that is compatible with the ipod should do. You're keeping the crap stock speakers so your sound quality is limited anyway. If I were you I would just look for a head unit that is easy to use with intuitive controls and wouldn't look totally fugly in the dash.

Yeah. I'm keeping the stock speakers so I'm not looking for anything that fancy. I just want to listen to shit from my ipod. lol. Just wanted to see what you guys were using so I can get an idea what to look for.

Then just get that one adapter that Mitsubishi makes for the stock stereo unit. I think Ryan got it a while back. That's cheap, you can use the money you save on not buying a new head unit to buy like 200+ songs from itunes or something.

Oh. I didn't know there was anything like that available... you have any info handy on that?

edit: is it this thing?

No, I tried a quick search but only found the one for the Outlander for $130. I remember a thread on evom about it with a vendor selling them. I don't remember how much it cost but even if it's anything like the Outlander price then maybe it might be worth it to upgrade the head unit to aftermarket. Unless you feel comfortable spending $130+ and still have the stock head unit.

I asked on EvoM and the guy from Mitsubishiparts.net said this:

Do you have an OEM Changer in your car? If so you need to add MZ598118EX to the order, but if not the link below is good. We usually keep a couple in stock. This is a full integration for your iPod.

^ Seems pretty expensive. I might just go for a new head unit.

I just got one for my Evo and it was a Sony. Be aware that those receivers that say "Ipod ready" means you will most likely have to buy an adapter. This Sony one comes hard wired already into the unit. All you have to do is figure out where you want the cable to be. Mine is inside my glove box and you can control the menus on the Itouch through the head unit.:icon_peace: Here is the link:http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158GT62IPW/Sony-Xplod-CDX-GT62IPW.html?tp=5684

Does this one charge your ipod while it's plugged in as well? That's way below what I was expecting to pay, so I wouldn't mind giving this one a shot. lol. btw: What version ipod do you have? I've been searching around and it seems certain generations have issues? I wonder if my 2nd gen itouch will.. =/

i'd stay away from sony decks, they are usually crap. for under $200 you could buy a decent Alpine headunit. I'm not sure how much Eclipse headunits are nowadays but you cant go wrong with them, maybe there's a model under $300.

It works pretty well. It needs an adapter to do bluetooth though and it was pretty expensive. Also doesnt' play CD's....

I just use it with a thumbdrive

ya and on top of that, the alpine now retails at $399 for the X100. If it was that cheap on slickdeals that would be silly and i would be pissed lol

Hey EUGENE. I just bought a new deck yesterday. It was only $120 it's a JVC and it comes with the iPod adaptor already. The only thing I need is this small adaptor that will charge my 3g now. It's a jvc KD-PDR40

I want to wait for the Alpine X305, it can charge iPod/iPhones and is fully compatible with iPhone.

iDA-X305 will be available at the end of January with a retail price of $350

I have the Apline CDA-9884 but haven't been happy with it. It came with my car and just feels like I'm fighting it all the time. I should probably look at the manual though...

Maybe i'll have to give my deck another try... but the X305 looks awesome, they will also have a X303 that doesn't have the fancy display for $250.

There is the link to the X305 on Crutchfield, says $299 but is in pre-order.

Nevermind, I don't have the 9884, it appears I have another Alpine that looks very similar to it. I'm not much of an audiophile

The CDE-102 also looks like a solid product and at $180 its in your price range! Said compatible with iPod/iPhone

Yup, this one charges the Itouch also. Never had any problems with the head unit except maybe with the radio reception but then again, I hardly listen to the radio and I have a stubby antenna.

I decided and ordered this head unit. It's cheap, free shipping, and comes with the harness to install into the car. $160. Some people seem to have frustration with the settings/controls, but most say after they read the manual, they're fine. For the price, it's worth a shot.
