My Autopower race rollbar came in this morning and I'd like to install it this weekend, since I have a 2-day event at Reno-Fernley Raceway with NCRC next weekend. I remember a few people here have them--for those of you who've installed one, any tips/advice?

There's a pretty good install write-up at http://www.sandmracing.com/srollbar.html but it's for an ITR, though most of the same things will apply to the Evo.

And if anyone would like to help, PM me... Of course I will provide pizza and beer. ;)

:bump: Anybody? It can't be that easy to install, that no-one has any wisdom to impart...

Okay, here's where I am so far; I'm trying to figure out if I've got the bar positioned correctly. Does this look right to you?

It's not bolted in or anything yet, just sitting there until I'm sure it's in the right position.

It looks like the feet are fairly flush with the car's surfaces, I've got the seats pushed all the way back to make sure there's enough room for them, everything seems fairly well in place but from what Percy told me, it seems way too easy. Percy said it would take a while, 2 people, removal of the front seats, and some work with some rubber mallets. I've been at this by myself for only about an hour, and I didn't have to take the front seats out; no mallets involved either. Did I overlook something crucial?

Does Percy have a sunroof? That would make it a lot harder.

You're going to take it all out again to pull the carpet, put it back and mark the holes, pull the cage again to drill, then put it in for good?

Given that I was able to move the rollbar back almost a foot inside the car, I don't think I need to take it out--there's enough room to move the bar inside the car to do everything I need to do.

Yeah, I think Percy has a sunroof. I'm again thrilled that I don't have one. 8)

I have a sunroof....man I'm envious! putting that thing in with a sunroof is a bitch! Looks excellent though!

Hey Percy and vtluu, do you know what that 2nd horz. bar is that is flat right behind the head rest. What's that for?

How much does it weigh Tam?

Good work, Tam. I wanted to give you a hand, but I just didn't have the time this weekend, sorry.

I see you're joining up with NCRC. FWIW, Alan Blaine does custom rollbars and cages. He has a mandrel bender and does good work. He's done cages for a bunch of road racers. He's also a good welder and will take on any job you want. He's done a few custom exhausts too. I know he's done a bunch of cages for F-bodies and Y-bodies for CMC and ITE, as well as race prep. His shop is also just down the road from NV on Tasman, between Lawrence and Great America. Tell him I said "Hi" when you see him with NCRC. He's the head coach at NCRC and ARC, IIRC.

You may want to weld in the cage, but talk to Alan about it.

Good luck in road racing, if you're going that route. I hear it's a blast. I'd love to race, but it's so much money to for maintenance and so much money for initial prep.
