Helix (thanks Cal!). Cannot feel any difference at all. I will after I get a hiflow cat.

btw, by running a hi flow cat will you
1. be setting of a cel light due to the higherflow
2. is it illegal?
3. how much of a difference will a high flow cat make vs catless?

1. No CEL. The hiflow cat is still supposed to be doing what the factory cat does (cleaning that dirty, dirty air) but it, like it name implies, lets more air through. I am no expert at this by any means, though.
2. It could easily be considered illegal EXCEPT if the cat is CARB exempt (or is that CARB certified?). Anyhow, Tam would know more about the specific ones that are ok to run since he has been looking into this.
3. Obviously, going catless will mean better breathing for your turbo, but I am not sure of the theoretical hp gains. Tuners with experience with this? :) (Basically, this means don't answer this if you are from Vivid Racing)

MagnaFlow makes a cat with 3" in/out that is CARB exempt and would probably fit the Evo. However the way the CARB exemption works is that it's for a device installed on a specific vehicle. In this case the cat is CARB exempt when installed on certain pickup trucks. As far as I know, there are currently no aftermarket cats that are CARB-exempt when installed on the Evo. :( You're probably going to be okay as long as you have some reasonable cat installed, chances are a cop isn't going to put your car up on a lift to see what kind of cat you have. And in my books, any cat is better than none. 8)

good work tam, now im just assuming like tam said no cop will either bend down on the floor to see if your cat is stock and even if he does he cant tell or put you car on a lift, so getting a hi flow cat .... is a high possibility in my books

:?: maybe a dumb one, but errr goes. getting a dp installed while the u r still running the stock exhaust.....will that do anything as far as gains. or is our stocker still to restricitve for having an aftermarket dp attached to it?

bluevo, i was thinking the same thing. i dont think it would do any significant gain b/c of fact that the flow would only be constricted again, going thru the cat and stock exhaust/muffler.

i actually met someone at the sac expo import show a few weeks back who had juss bought his evo. he had a TT and a dp installed. wasnt sure exactly why he had the dp installed while still running stock exhaust? kinda confused me. but i dunno... :? he said he was going to order a cat-back soon, though.

oh yea. im running a completely stock exhaust.

my vote, just remove the exhaust system and cat and run it that way, just kidding... however what would it do performance wise if you do that?

I am on the lookout right now for a cat that LOOKS like the one on our Evos. If anyone finds a 3" hiflow cat that looks somewhat stock, please let me know.

Why are you so concerned about your cat looking like stock?Just hollow out your stock one and stick a straightpipe through it.

Problem is, I care about the environment and I don't think that me getting 10 more hp is worth releasing that many toxins into the air. My personal perspective, of course.
