Hi everyone, I'm helping a friend do a little research for a project he's working on.

Besides knock which speed readings would you guys prefer to datalog/read most from the ECU? Which analog readings would you guys prefer to read from the ECU?

Personally, I would prefer in order of priority:

Speed:
1. RPM
2. Injector Duty Cycle
3. MPH

Analog:
1. Air Intake Temperature
2. TPS
3. MAF
4. Engine coolant temp

Any others from the ECU you would care to read in and datalog?

targetted and actual RPM.
knock count
knock retard
timing advance
injector pulse width
o2 voltage front and rear
boost maps/trim
fuel maps/trim
spark retards (multiple sources such as egr, temperature)
closed/open loop
iac
fan control
vent/purge
a/c compensation
additional inputs for a wide-band.
additional inputs for MAP (speed density).

all the obd-2 codes and clearing.

Actually, everything else that's not listed too. :)

Most important is the loop mode, knock, timing, boost, fuel, spark/timing retard if you have pick.

I wouldn't care too much for fancy displays, high frequency datalogging so you can catch things like (as an example) throttle tip-in and whether or not a millisecond lean condition is picked up causing a stumble.

Hehe, I meant 1G Pocketlogger. :D

:?

I was responding to his request about what inputs are deemed important in a datalogger, not looking for recommendations myself. Thanks though. :)

While it's nice people are giving product recommendations, it doesn't answer the initial question posed by Stormtrooper. What's important to you?

Also, the disadvantage of a separate device for WBO2 and BOOST, is that you need to correlate the data points from multiple devices and multiple logs. The reader needs to have additional inputs (user defined voltage range, current rage, or resistance range) to pull all the data in on the same tick. 1 reader, 1 log.

Pocketlogger by itself is a nice product, but it's not Evo specific. It's generic OBD2 and doesn't have access to the maps. The 1G one is better, but should have more.

Take Pocketlogger, add auxiliary inputs with defineable range, with higher sampling rate than OBD2 allows, add the ability to FLASH and READ the ECU, and it'll be perfect.

Sorry, I meant those have alot of the inputs you where talking about. Yes, it would be great to have one thing that did it all, like AEM EMS.

If only DSMLink came out for the EVO. With DSMLink, you can unhook the stock MAP sensor, and use that wiring to hook up a wideband or 3-bar MAP sensor since it's a 0-5V signal input for the ECU. The rear o2 sensor input can also be used for 0-1V signal inputs. DSMLink will log those values with all the other regular parameters simultaneously.

Someone back east has rigged up DSMLink to work in an EVO. It just requires swapping a few wires around on one of the ECU harnesses.

Didn't they also have to use a 2G ecu as well?

Yeah, it was using a 2g ECU. Only the 95 2g ECUs can use DSMLink since that was the only year 2g ECU that came with EPROM chips.

While the 95 ECUs can be rigged to work in the EVO, it's missing a few outputs for some emissions crap I believe.
