I've been reading a lot about the benefits of higher octane gas for my evo, especially since I'm stuck with 91 octane N.cal gasoline...

From what I understand, if I want to run 93-94 octane gas all the time, the most cost effective way is to use toluene or xylene, (as opposed to methanol, mtbe, commercial octane booosters, etc).

Is anyone out there using toluene to boost octane? If so, are you adding a lubricant or cleaner to the gas? Where do you get the toluene? (I'm in Sacramento)

how about mixing 100 octane with 91 to obtain a higher octane rating ..

There's a nice link in the above thread.

Water Injection. The cheapest octane booster around, and unlike toulene, you won't end up on the DEA's watchlist for running a suspected meth lab (yes, this has happened to car guys when they buy toulene in any quantity). I might add, toulene is not something I would want to handle on a regular basis either (environmental and health hazard).

Last time I went to Home Depot I wasn't able to find any toluene--possibly for the reason you mentioned--just Xylene and only in a 1-gal can ($10).

For a toluene hookup, I guess I need to find someone who runs a meth lab.

Did someone say meth. lab? What do you guys need? Just kidding. I was going with mixing gas but for me, it was a hassle so I stopped. Besides I ask a few guys about any difference with higher octane and they said they didn't really feel any difference. I guess for racing when every HP counts, then the higher octane is the way to go. But for daily driving, in my opinion, it's not worth it. Just get a Xflash.

Or go with 110 vp/sunoco unleaded My stage IV is very happy on 91 (as long as I keep the boost to 18 psi...I would always run less boost to preserve the timing and a/f ratios to make the best power without detonation... The water injection thing is something I've used on my High HP diesel...would like to see how it works on the track...

should have previewed..I ment add 2 gallons of the 110 to 12 gal 91 and you get just under 94 octane...At $5.0/gallon prob the cheapest way (other than H20).
