so, I see that a lot of you guys and gals out there in evo land have installed aftermarket performance cams and I have been hearing nothing but good things about them; about how much horsepower these things produce, so on and so forth..... but I was wondering- yeah you get a considerable performance increase, but at what cost??? In other words, what kind of drop in gas milage would I expect from installing cams? Is it a considerable drop in efficiency (ie. 15 mpg down to 10 mpg) or is it not very noticable?

The HP vs. cost of gas is really a non issue. I haven't seen any significant change in gas milage since the cams went in. Obviously...the more you put your foot into it...the more gas you'll use :D. With proper tuning...regular driving might even yield better gas milage. But no, you won't be getting 100 miles to the tank or anything like that. I average about 250ish on a full tank.

With gears and a good tune, the bump sticks make a huge improvement in power. Definitely worth the 2-3 mpg drop in milage.

i'm running the 274 272 combo and gears and I get about 220 230 a tank with some heavy driving during that tank. I yeilded 280whp on 91 and 318whp on 100....I'm running a cat of coarse which has alot to do with the numbers but your grandchildren will thank me later when the can breath the air still

You mean 264/272 right?

What dyno?

I have the Works 269 cams. I dont think there has been a drop in mileage from the cams at all. I do seem more inclined to drive harder, however which certainly hurts my mileage.

272's, I noticed neither drop nor gain in fuel economy.

I have 264/272's, fuel pump, cam gears, tb exhaust, V.i.s.h.n.u X-flash, pushing about 314whp and I get about 285 miles per tank on 91 octane. But thats only freeway/highways miles and babying the car the whole time.

I have a walbro 255, 650cc injectors 264/264, rally cat, and i think my mpg has actually improved, when im not boosting of course. I really feel like the adjustable fpr i run, which lowers the stock baseline fuel pressure keeps the car from waisting to much fuel.. it holds like a rock while the stocker is unsteady with an upgraded fuel pump.

what gas mileage  never paid attention to mine since the full tank lasts me about 1.5-2 weeks
