Wilson,

How much input did you have on this?

How come u didn't go with X door bars? or Nascar?

What spec are you going towards for this?

Why is he using smaller diamter tubing? More points?

I decided against it as i won't be doing any wheel to wheel racing anytime soon.

It was built with Tony's suggestion as what i want to do with the car, and is spec to conform to the current regulations of SCCA, NASA, NHRA, etc.

It's still being finish at this time, and when done, will have the X Door brace on.

It would be painted in black. :D

you should paint it silver like the stickers you have so it stands out more... it will look really nice

I say you should paint it light blue! That would compliment the yellow paint.

After a closer look it looks like the guy can weld. The first pic I looked at looked like my grandma welded it. I dig these

How did you guys find that link so fast????

Thanks for all the positive feed back guys. The cage in the pics that are up is not the final finished version. There are still door bars that finish the X in the doors as well as some more additional supports.

In no real order here are some answers to above questions:

I am a certified FAA tube structure welder, pictures don't always tell the whole story come down to the shop and look in person at the weld quality.

X door bars are actually stronger in a side impact than NASCAR bars. A tube is strongest in tension. When you make NASCAR bars with the bends you are telling the bar where to bend/fail in an impact. So why does NASCAR do it that way? MASS! Look how many bars are on the door bars. The way they get away with it is just pure mass. Look at FEA developed touring cars from europe, all X brace bars.

I have built over 300 cages. I know what I am doing, know the engineering behind cages, and know how to fabricate. Take a look at the rest of the website, we do a lot of fabrication and only about 25% ends up on the website!

More pictures will be posted as it nears completion. A BIG thanks for Wilson for being very patient. This project has taken a very long time due to my work load, but is turning out very nice.

Hey Wilson, I was purely asking, I don't know much about proper cages so I was just wondering. I can't wait to see the final product! :D

I just saw this car upclose. All I have to say is I'm jelous Wilson!!! Tony is the only one I trust putting a cage in my car. I still need to run my car at the Solo II Nationals this September without a cage. After that, I'm going to have Tony build me one just like this.

The man is an artist! :worthy:

In the pictures it looks like you are MIG welding the cage I have allways thought that if you are doing a cromolly cage you need to use a tig welder to pass tech [/quote]

Requirements will vary between organizations but MIG should be fine. NASA CCR 15.6.15 (then again when will we see Wilson do NASA Pro Racing?) and SCCA 18.1.7.B (or SCCA Club/Pro Racing?) specify weld requirements for rollcages.
