Yup, I'll be there, #147 AS-N, watching the two Joes (Joe Harrison (ESP), Joe Masters (AS)) kick our butts in their Evos. :)

Oh, hey, Chris! Duhhhhhh... I don't know why I didn't put "chrisw" and "Chris Warner" together until now. I didn't notice your time on the last results (http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/Results/2004/Championship/round1.html#esp) because your car is listed as "02 STi". Kinda looked like an STi with a "full Evo conversion" kit. (And anyway didn't the STi start with model year '03 ('04?)?)

They would only cancel in the event of a thunderstorm--because someone getting hit by lightning would be bad.

Just curious.. How many runs do you get on the autocross course throughout the day? Does it depend on how many cars show up?

You get three timed runs that count towards your final result (i.e. your time is the best of those three). If there's time left at the end of the day you may get a few "fun runs" as well. Obviously the fewer drivers there are, the more time there is for fun runs; at one event in Marina last year there was only half the usual number of drivers so we all did four timed runs and three fun runs before lunch.

Different clubs will have different rules of course; for example at the BMW CCA auto-x you get two practice runs followed by four timed runs.

$30. (Was $25 last year. :() SCCA membership is required (sign-ups not available on-site).

All the info here: http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/Results/2004/Championship/round2_info.html

Street Modified class runs in group 5--first one after lunch. Remember to show up before registration closes at noon.

Okay kids, watch and learn: this is how not to drive an Evo:

http://www.norcalevo.net/gallery/albums/album39/autox_tam_20040222b_s.wmv

2 spinouts + 4 cones = spectacular suckage :( (What the camera missed is that on my second, higher-speed spinout I was sliding backwards alarmingly towards a light pole; when I saw this I finally had the sense to stomp the brakes to come to a complete stop, coming about 15' short of hitting the pole. After that I just crawled my way to the finish before I could do anything else stupid.)

Ordinary suckage (my first run):

http://www.norcalevo.net/gallery/albums/album39/autox_tam_20040222a_s.wmv

Due having walked the course hurriedly with so many people on it that I could barely see a few steps ahead, and my not looking out on course far enough, I had to slow down just to figure out where I needed to go after passing the crossover.

Due to the course layout (the crossover meant they had to space out cars more than usual) and a high (>300) number of entrants, people running after lunch (including all the Evos save one guy running Street Tire class) only got 2 runs and only 15 minutes to walk the course. I heard they'll be mailing $10-off-entry-fee coupons to those who ran after lunch. Still, it really sucked to be out there all day just for two runs.

All in all, an autocross event I'd rather forget. Must... suck... less! :bandhead:

At least I managed to get some photos of Joe's new decal job:

Went out for couples to check out this autocross thing. It seems that there were alot of people having problems with the course. Managed to meet Gino out there.

I saw someone who I thought looked like Gino but wasn't sure (since I've only met him once, a couple months ago). Leroy, did you stick around to witness my spinstravaganza?

Yeah, ImpalaSS's comments about the crossover make sense. I think it was a day long on frustration and short on fun for a lot of people. :(

I got whiplash trying to see the limit as I flew by it.

It's always an accomplishment when you spin for the first time. Now you know the limits of your tires and setup
