which one? the one where stock radio/cd player resides? if so, pull the a/c knobs and you will see the screws that is holding the console panel in place.

Your shifter is mounted in a strange place.

Lift up the armrest and take out the two bolts there. You should be able to lift it up enough to unplug the I/C sprayer electronics. It should slide up the e-brake handle after the "hinge" with the front portion is freed up.

The rest pretty much goes in order of the numbers above. Some won't be relevant and just skip. The only other wiring involved is a bulb for the ashtray and one for the lighter--both can be unplugged or unscrewed.

thanks...

Step by step:
Take all the crap out of your drink holders and armrest cubby. Remove the two phillips screws in the cubby hole:

Lift up on the front portion of the rear console section until the clips release. One hand on either side--positioned next to I/C sprayer switch:

Unplug I/C sprayer switch (view from front of vehicle, release button on driver's side of white plug):

Slide the console portion up and over the brake lever and you should be staring at this:

Remove the plastic clip by the gas pedal with a phillips screwdriver and slide piece forward until it releases:

Push center of exposed plastic clip and remove (driver's side should now be free):

Passenger side pulls out towards door. Approximate clip locations marked:

Push center of exposed plastic clip and remove (passenger's side should now be free):

Unscrew shift knob, remove ashtray and lighter. Remove three screws (red) and undo plug (yellow). The console should now be free to remove:

Thanks Jamie! :)

If between the service manual, Jamie's above instructions and Joe H's instructions (http://www.joe250.com/cars/evo/shortshifter.htm) you still don't know how to take apart the center console, then I think there's no hope left for you.
