Just a little shot of the turbo hiding.

The thing was pretty stealth looking. But you could here the turbo spool. Problem was it was either on power or off. No in between. It had dual intercoolers, one infront of each tire. The guy driving said it was the hpa prototype that won some shootout.

Theres more pix at the above link.

My first autox in the evo.... man pretty amazing compared to my prelude from before (duh) but got to really feel it for the first time! Reflexes of the evo are amazing.

Great to meet you guys evo_grim, bdking... I'll look forward to seeing you guys out there next month!

17th out of 190 entries and still only good for 5th in ESP.

Can you say "Evo domination"?

I really dont think my body roll is that bad at all.. i think the issue was more like i was conering all retarted at first.. i was being super easy on the brakes and like coasting into corners instinctively.. producting understeer and tire screeching.. i was feeling the loss of grip compared to when i was much smoother in the corners. I was getting smoother and more consitant as the day goes on.. I feel like I need more experience faster.

Stormtrooper
07-19-2005, 03:28 PM
yeah... i was similar, probably to a worse degree... for my first few runs, i was going into all the corners too hot in the beginning and would just plow forward into an understeer...

Need more practice =D Anyone doing the american autox this weekend at atwater? I'll be there sunday...

Its funny when i always here of people showing up to their first autox in a stock evo and getting the fastest stock time of the day and all that crap.. i guess they have like zero competition or competent drivers because the experience really shows at these bmw events.. i love getting owned by stock 3 series :x

Cheer up, running against strong competition is the best way to learn... Though yeah, it's nice to be a big fish in a small pond once in a while--like when I showed up and set FTD both days at the Rim of the World auto-x. Then next weekend it was back to getting my ass handed to me by Navid, chrisw and all the other ESP regulars.

well.. i plan to take it easy at the kick back bmwcca events.. being that they are 10 minutes away from me once a month...Going to try and go karting once a month as well. Right now im still in the tripping over my own feet phase.. im gradually working my way out of that with marshalls , but id like to sign up for a clinic (there is one in august in marina by the way) or get some advice from some vets.

We are getting in 9 runs at the bmw events... so im seeing it as a faster way to get more experience then jumping right into scca events.

Stormtrooper
07-20-2005, 01:12 PM
yeah that was great 9 runs for $40....

I'm signing up for that autox at Marina August 8th, but i'm not sure about the clinic yet... are you and marshall both gonna go for the clinic?

bdking57
07-20-2005, 01:33 PM
I would like to but i may be out of town.. plus that would be a rough weekend on the tires.

EVO GRIM
07-20-2005, 06:37 PM
I might let my wife drive for the clinic. I will definately be there for the autox.

god.. i think the one run of me is very weak lol.. I the 69. second one felt much slower yet 2 seconds faster.. tires were hooking up better etc untill the very end... I think we were all coming into that area to hot. This course was awesome!

just found something intresting.. the 1970 BMW 2002 (number 26 car) absolutely killed us at marina.. fastest time of the day.. He was at 60-61..my best time was in the 69s and I think marshal was hitting 65 during the fun runs. The top 5 evos in esp were all faster then this guy! Thats motivation for me to learn how to drive this car faster. :D

The Steve Kupper/KGB Racing red 2002? Yeah, he's just a bit louder than he is fast, but fast nonetheless. :)

The very bumpy surface at Candlestick would have favored the Evos since Steve's 2002 is pretty low to the ground and has much less suspension travel.

The ground was shaking when he was on the course.. He was definately the guy to beat at the bmw event..well he got one really fast lap off anyway, his others were slower and Ken Garcia was consitantly just a half second behind his fastest time.

so if we are alot slower then this guy what exactly are we doing wrong..im assuming our cars are plenty capable of posting better times. I think my problem is braking.
