For the longest time, I've been curious about what local dyno #s translated to in terms of 1/4 mile times. I've also been curious about how times and trap speeds differed between Infineon and Sac Raceway. Well, I have some good apples-to-apples data that should put these curiosities to rest. All my #s came from my car with the same mods, same tune, same brand gas (76 91 octane) and within a short timespan of each other.

Gruppe-S Dyno:
Date: 7/23/05
Mileage: 18391
Dyno bay temperature: I'm guessing low 80s
1) 253.7whp @ 6750rpm, 241.6wtq @ 4000rpm
2) 254.8whp @ 6500rpm, 244.9wtq @ 4000rpm
3) 251.4whp @ 6500rpm, 241.1wtq @ 4000rpm

Infineon Raceway:
Date: 7/20/05
Mileage: 18290
Notes: Gas tank 2/3 full
Run#) 60', 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile, last 1/8th mile delta, track temp
1) 1.990, [email protected], [email protected], 4.948, 89°F
2) 2.128, [email protected], [email protected], 4.918, 91°F
3) 2.084, [email protected], [email protected], 4.942, 81°F - slight headwind
4) 1.930, [email protected], [email protected], 4.926, 73°F - slight headwind

Sacramento Raceway:
Date: 8/3/05
Mileage: 18666
Notes: Gas tank 1/4 full, 97°F when I got to the track, 83°F when I left
Run#) 60', 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile, last 1/8th mile delta
1) 2.010, [email protected], [email protected], 4.850
2) 2.100, [email protected], [email protected], 4.869
3) 1.945, [email protected], [email protected], 4.842
4) 1.939, [email protected], [email protected], 4.824

Relevant Power Mods:
03 EVO w/ HKS downpipe, HKS Hi-Power cat-back, DIY ground kit, JDM MR DV, WORKS P2, Helix HFC, Helix IC pipes, WORKS drop-in filter, 10.5 hotside, port-matched exhaust manifold/turbine housing/o2 housing

Conclusion:
Please excuse the horrendous 60' times. I just can't, for the life of me, launch hard w/ the stock clutch. It just doesn't bite very hard and I don't have enough balls to pop it. ;)

The most consistent # to extract from 1/4 mile times is the acceleration time between the 1/8 and 1/4 mile marker, which I called "last 1/8th mile delta" above. This is basically a 4th gear pull and it is what I look at to gauge how my car accelerates. So despite having cooler weather, my times and trap speeds were slower at Infineon Raceway. Sac Raceway was appoximately a tenth second faster in the last 1/8th. Trap speeds were 2-3 mph faster too.

Now I'm curious about what kinda #s my car can do at Sac Raceway in cooler weather. I'm also gonna try out the P2R to see if it helps achieving better 60' times w/ the stock clutch. ;)

Sac Raceway is known to be close at sea level compared to Infeneon which resulted you a much lower ET and higher trap speed. You probably could cut another 2-3 more tenths and raise another 2mph with your setup and get a best time of low 13s. Adding Cams + race gas will dip you well enough into 12's almost consistently.

interesting comparison Mark.

anyone know the elevation difference between sac and infineon? doesn't seem like it would be a lot since HWY37 is built through a tidal marsh that used to be part of san pablo bay, but sac is in the valley i guess. hmmm.....

Okay, doing a quick search on Google shows that Infineon's drag strip elevation is 15' and Sac Raceway is 50'. So the difference in times and mph is definitely not due to the elevation differences. If both strips were equal, I should be slower at Sac. I think it's because Infineon's dragstrip has a slight incline. I always have to use my e-brake at the starting line to prevent my car from rolling back.

infinion is pretty flat until you get to the end, then there is a slight uphill

ima go to sac next week to see what i hit there. but i got 13.0@104mph at infineon last night with a 60ft of 1.77. i only got 3 runs last night before i had to leave and it was my first time. ill see the differences =D

Yup, that's a pretty damn good 60' time. So you did a 2-step from 6k Chris? What clutch are you using?

I've never seen a stock 03 evo run 103 mph traps over here. Not even close.

Yea I don't think I have either. Over 100 yes, but not 103.

Just data points anyway.

Motor Trend does their evo testing in Cali but I can't remember what they got as performance numbers.

That data is irrelevant in my apples-to-apples comparison. You know how much power my car makes on the dyno and you know how much power stock 03 EVOs make on the same dyno. My point for this post was to correlate how Gruppe-S dyno #s will translate to at each track.
