Time to play in the dirt! No rally car required! (Well, by that I mean no special equipment required on your car, just like at an autocross. It's all pretty flat and nothing to run into other than cones. All you need is a helmet and we have loaners.)

Aw man..think the GF is hooking me up on this as a present!

Anyone have some tips on if my blinging car will get thrashed, or at the least what I should do suspension-wise and rim/tires?

Just hook up your ride w/ some 35/12.50/15 BFG mudders wrapped around a set of 15x10 alcoa rims and top it off with a skyjacker 10 inch lift kit and 2 inch body lift.... monster garage style.... :ahnold:

It's run in your own car, but the driving portion is in the same location as the RallyCross, so other than getting dusty it's pretty flat, nothing to run into, etc. All you need is a helmet, but we have loaners.

The co-driver needs to be 16 or older. They never need to drive of course, but it's stipulated by SCCA regs.

As for tires/rims...any tips? Also suspension/ride height? Sorry for the questions, but first school and don't want to kill my car. :D

Stock ride height shouldn't have any problems. If you are lowered a little bit and have a lip, things may get scratched up depending on how chewed up stuff gets.

Over the past few years, the "worst" RallyCross we had was earlier this year when a part of the course was still muddy from the winter rains. I think the wet clay claimed a couple plastic skid plates and one fender liner. Given that was been our worst, it's a very easy going location.

Someone was running a stock Porsche 944 last year, and that was too low. He ended up raising it, then it did fine. Stock height Mistubishis, Subarus, Hondas, Toyotas, etc, really don't have any problems since we always try to keep things smooth. If something (like the skid pad) gets really torn up we'll take a brake and run the tractor over it.

You can browse through photos to get an idea of what it's like out there:

Tires are pretty flexibile. If you have balding street tires you can still play, you'll just have terrible grip. Generally it's a good idea to add about 4-5psi to strengthen the sidewalls if you'll be sliding around in the dirt in street tires. Things like beefy snow tires always look sexy, but snow tires have extremely soft sidewalls, and if you drive agressively, even 40psi in snows can have issues.

Worst case, you pop a bead which is pretty rare at our location. This just means the sidewall flexes in and the tire deflates. Reinflate, and you're good to go.

"You do not need to bring any vehicle to take part in the classroom part of the course. You may use any reasonable street automobile, except convertibles, for the drivers practice sessions and the mini-Rally"

I don't think they give you a car to rally in. When they say no rally car required they meen you can sit in for the classes but you can't participate during the driving part. Please tell me if I wrong because I too would be interested in doing this but if I have to use my car maybe I'll just go for the classes.

You are correct - I guess my first post isn't as clear as it should be. What I meant to say that any ol' daily driver is all you need (other than convertibles and top heavy SUVs). No special equipment, etc, just like at an autocross, and we have loaner helmets.
