This is what my home office looks like at the moment:

Got a set of Kumho Ecsta MXs (245/40/17) from a friend for TireRack price minus shipping and tax. This weekend's autocross should finish off my Yokos, so I need to get these put on next week. At the same time I'm thinking about tweaking the alignment--more negative camber (-2--as far as the factory bolts allow), less toe-in. So a shop that can do both mounting and custom alignment would be best...

Can anyone recommend a shop that will do a decent job of tire mounting and custom alignment, and for a reasonable price?

Thanks.

Hi Tam,

Let me know how u like the the Ecsta MXs. Do you know weight of these tires? I am also looking to get new tires. As for alignment, I think that there is a place in Mountain View called Custom Alignment that would do a custom spec alignment.

Hi Tam,

Did you get a chance to weight the kumho mxs before they were mounted? How do you like the tires? If you don't mind sharing, what is your alignment setup?

Thx,
Terry

I didn't get the chance to weigh them, but according to http://www.kumhousa.com/Products/PtnDetails.asp?mainCatID=1&PtnID=KU-15 the 245/47/17s are 23 lbs apiece.

Front alignment: factory camber bolt set to -2 setting, ended up being -1.6 on each side. Toe-out is 0.06 degrees on each side (was 0.3 degrees of toe-in per side).

Rear alignment: camber set to -1.3 on each side. Toe-in is 0.03 degrees each side (basically 0).

I've noticed the car plows much much less now. It's definitely less forgiving but response to steering input is definitely quicker--for better or worse. :)

Thanks Tam! Do you think the kumho is about the same, better or worse then the stock advan in terms of conering traction?

So far the Kumhos don't seem quite as grippy, but mind you I'm comparing fresh Kumhos to well-worn Yokos. What I've heard is that the Ecsta MXs get a lot more grippy around 1/2 way through the tread blocks. Given how I drive at auto-x, I guess I'll get there soon enough...
