Hey guys,

Just got a new toy in the mail and I will be testing this out for you guys sometime this week if time premits. This piece is nicely made out of aluminum....not some cheap plastic. Also, Sun Auto claims 16 ps gain depending on application and I will find out for you guys soon.

- Improve response of the engine and idling
- Improve fuel economy
- Improve starting up characteristic
- Increase in power and torque
- Improve spark in all rpm range

Thanks,
Tom

Are these really necessary? I added an MSD to my last vehicle and noticed little if any difference. I see these types of ignition mods all the time for all types of cars but when really, does the stock ignition start needing help?

The way I see it, car company put parts on their car that are "just necessary" to have the car running good, because if they did put the best part on their cars, there wouldn't be and aftermarket parts.

I partially agree, but to what point is the ignition system over engineered? Otherwise we wouldn't have Brembos.

I'd love to see the results. From everything I've read in the past, this stuff is just snake oil.

The system is all plug and plug!!! Just some minor modification to the bracket. :D

I installed this last night and I noticed the idle is smoother and the boost kicks in faster. Butt dyno tells me at least 10whp but I will confirm that once I get the car on our Mustang Dyno sometime this week. Overall...I have very satisfied with this ignition. {thumbup} Hopefully my gas milage will be better too!

Is this something that Gruppe-S sells? If so, how much?

haha, Brian...I know what you are thinking!! I did say Butt Dyno and will get you some concrete numbers once I get my car on the dyno sometime this week.

Do you have to worry about it when getting your emissions tested?

Matz

looks like it could be a stealthy install... can you get the wires in black, as well as the grounding box? I'd love to see a dyno chart for this, as I have a hard time believing that this generates any horsepower. :) no offense!

Thats why you guys have me to pay for it and then do all the work to test it, right? I didn't believe it will do anything neither at first but the car does drive alot smoother and the boost does kick in faster.

My car is scheduled to be on the dyno next monday so lets wait to see if it does anything. :D

Tom

So are you going to dyno with and without it on the same day?

Did you disconnect the battery before you installed it?

Gruppe-S

It will take me about 5 mins to unplug the system on the dyno so it will be done the same day.

No, I did not disconnect the battery when I installed this ignition.

holy $hit that i$ really expen$ive. I would $till con$ider buying one if Gruppe-S ha$ a money back guarantee on that piece if it doe$n't make any hor$epower on our Evos. $till, we need to wait to see the re$ult$ on Tom'$ Evo.

I forgot to tell you guys that this box only cost $340ish but there's also a wiring harness that is needed for specific car which cost another $100.

They could have given us Endless 6 pistons instead of Brembos.

Tom,

I have a HKS DLI-II, do you need to do a side by side comparision? :D

Would really like to see a comparison with the HKS unit as well. Especially when their prices are almost identical.

I agree do a test on the HKS unit as well its plug and play also. It would really help make my decision easier since I need a better ignition now that I'm running more boost

+1 here for comparing the HKS and SUN unit. HKS is widely used and has been around for awhile so it's proven. But SUN isn't really a bad company either.

Sorry guys...I been having boost controller problem and have to take the AVCR out to send back to Apexi. Anyhow...I got someone to come in to test this system early next week.

Thanks,
Tom

So are you gonna test this and the hks ignition so we can see which one is a better mod?

I can but my car will need to be fix first. My AVCR is prob not gonna come back until a month later according to Apexi. :(

You can test it on my wifes car if you want. She said its ok with her :D

Here is the result I got from around 7:00pm last night. The pulls were done with the Sun ignition on first and then a second dyno run was done a few minutes (~5mins) to allow the car to cool off to prevent heat soak. Since the car was on the dyno before I left work....I have also done another dyno run this morning just to verify the results and the horsepower/tq gain were all similar.

However, my result were not as good of a gain that Sun Auto claim this product to be. I know there will be many people who will be skeptical and condition might vary due to heat soak or weather condition. At the end, this is just a new product that I found and for me to test for you guys.

tom.. thanks for the testing and honest feedback, intrestingly you did pick up some midrange power.. i wasnt expecting any real noticable gains. Not sure if the $/whp is that great but thanks for the test none the less.

Wow, I am amazed that there's any gains at all. I always thought the ignition upgrades never really did anything to horsepower to mitsu cars.

necessary no, but it does get you power and actually faster spool up also. a strong spark is very good for your engine and this type of mod boosts your overall efficiency.
